Good morning. Cold front coming through this morning. Rainy start to the day. Supposed to clear up this afternoon. I've got nothing planned, probably watch a movie with Claire and I'll mess around with my guitars. So what else is new?
Have a great day folks.

Shabbat Shalom, friends. Despite today's date, I won't get political here. I'll just post this song.
Snow and rain on the way. Stay warm and dry.

Good morning. The thermometer says it's either 37 or 38 outside.
Our brief winter is the time for a number of outside chores. Those chores are most of what I've been doing recently. I thought I was tired of such work but I'm enjoying it again. Whatever else, it's good exercise.
Our Lab, Barney, has been off his feed for a while. Yesterday he got an ultrasound and he has cancer in his liver and other organs. The vet's recommendation was to take him home and spoil him. He doesn't have much time. He doesn't seem to be in pain but the bounce and the joy are gone. He's the best dog we've ever had and we're having a hard time with this. Many of you know the feeling.
Nothing else to report. Enjoy your day.

The best song written about a curfew ever. Or... is it this song?

Well, my day just went down the tubes -- got in the car to run some errands and it cranked over fine, but didn't fire. Couple more attempts appeared to drain the battery, so I quit. My State Farm agent keeps no weekend hours and their roadside assistance line required me to use an app, which I can't do on my flip phone, so I called the shop that services my car and they could offer no help unless I get it towed there.
So I dunno what to do, other than wait and try again later. One hunch I have is that it might be related to the fact that the car sat outside overnight and I didn't drive it yesterday, then last night I just pulled it into the garage. It seems to me I had a starting problem under a similar scenario a couple years ago.

Don, I’m sorry to hear this. Losing a beloved dog is hard. You will always remember them. Buy a IPhone. Morning. It’s raining like heck here. 41 degrees heading to a high if 41. I have an exciting day of drinking coffee and playing sudoku planned. Mike Wordle 931 4/6 ⬜⬜🟨⬜🟩 🟨🟩⬜⬜🟩 ⬜🟩⬜🟨🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Normal cloudy and cold. Muddling about the house and hanging out with eldest granddaughter.
Cornflake - sorry to hear about Barney. Always hard to lose a dog.

This is LJ. I'm continuing to have Paul post for me in the daily. I think this is a good arrangement.
Today. I am so excited. I am taking a day trip into Chicago to go shopping, shopping, and more shopping with my girlfriends for new outfits. Did I say that I am so excited. Oh, I see I did, but I am so excited. I'm just so excited I just can't hide it. Hmm, say, I think there might be a song in there somewhere. I have been singing a lot lately. Because I'm so excited!

It seems to me I had a starting problem under a similar scenario a couple years ago. Starting Attempt No. 2 was successful -- it ran rough for about 15 secs, then smoothed right out, went to normal idle speed and everything worked fine on the long drive I took with no accessories in use. This really seemed like a computer/fuel glitch, not a battery deal. This car just does not like a cold-start, followed by an immediate shutdown and overnight sit, for some reason. Ponies gotta run, I guess. So on my shakedown run, I of course went to the Culver's drive-thru, picked up a burger, broccoli-cheese soup and coffee. Now it's Mecum car auction time from Kissimmee.

David, so sorry I’m going through the same thing with our cat. She was undersized feral kitten when we got her. Took a good 6 months to get her to calm down. She’s now about 7 years old. Has an abdominal tumor. We wonder if it’s from eating poisoned mice in the basement. Vet declines comment on that. We’ll miss her, gonna spoil the heck out of her til the end.

For you Wordle experts: When you have the last 4 letters of a word, how do you decide on the first letter to try? For example, the last 4 letters are RANK. So the first letter could be P, D, F or C. Is there some Wordle theme or clue that helps?

If you're missing only one letter and there are several letters that will work, it's pretty much a coin toss. Not quite, though. The Wordle editors sometimes pick words that go with a special day. E.g., I think that on Christmas the word was "grace."

Googled a bit. Xmas eve was GRACE. In one letter left (and some other) situations, I just hope that one guess 'feels' marginally more probable than the others. Sometimes the feel/hunch seems to pay off. Frequently not. The NYT 'Connections' puzzle is a new thing I do. Quite a satisfying level of challenge. A little bit US culture/lingo referency though. Adds an interesting element. Connections Puzzle #210 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟩🟩🟩🟩

Is there some Wordle theme or clue that helps? I usually just overthink it and lose. Like, I'll assume they are trying to fool me, so I'll pick the outlier -- perhaps the one that doesn't rhyme ( like "watch" among choices of patch, catch, match, batch, etc). Or I'll just guess what I believe to be the least used word. I figure my chances are just as good overthinking as under thinking, so why not make myself a little bit miserable while playing?

Is there some Wordle theme or clue that helps? If your next guess has 3 of the 4 letters (paced) you'll know what to do on the following turn. It eliminates the chance of getting it right on the next turn but you also know you won't have 3 misses. That wouldn't work for hard mode, but life's too short for hard mode anyways. Don, so sorry to hear about Barney. I would love to see a photo of that good good boy.
