Good morning. I thought I'd post this link to the website I edit for all you junior and armchair astronomers, in advance of the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8.
Time to pick up those lens filters for your cameras and some eclipse viewing glasses.
Here is some video footage of the last one, in 2017.
Wishing everyone a pleasant day, especially DrLJ and Village Idiot.

We happen to get four whole minutes of totality here. We're expecting somewhere around 100,000 visitors to our 50,000-population town. Personally, I will be in the middle of an 80-ish hour work week. I do plan to step outside to enjoy the totality, and have a 58mm solar filter, courtesy of B&H, to attach to my camera. I also have a bunch of pairs of 2X eclipse glasses and a filter for cell phones. Sending prayers and good thoughts towards LJ and Todd.

Good morning. Rainy day here, not much going on, I think I'll change strings on some guitars. Be well, be happy.

And the e-commerce page, for products... A number of us have joked that the day will probably be overcast. I inadvertently ordered way too many sets of glasses, so maybe I can unload them (for profit!) on eBay. For the next eclipse with North American totality in 2044.

Roll of the dice whether I'll be around for the next one.

I'll be 95. Not sure I wanna be, after seeing how my mom handle 96.

Wow. There's an inch of snow on the ground and there was just a crash of thunder.

Morning. Wordle in three, failed connections. Toast and coffee for breakfast. Secured a rental car for our upcoming Hawaii trip yesterday, using an App called Turo, that lets locals rent their car. Last year when we did this we saved 400 bucks over getting a car from, say, Budget. But this year we only saved about 100 bucks. Inflation is everywhere. At least we are still able to go.
Played the Seagull a bit last night. Still amazed by the quality of this 300 dollar guitar.

Good morning? More than an inch of snow here, about 12-18 inches piled up against my garage door, an inch or 2 on the driveway. I'll probably go clean in front of the garage when the snow stops.
Forecast is for 60 degrees on Sunday.

Good morning. 24F-34F snow. Lunch with the MN Guitar Mafia today. I don't think the snow will keep many from coming, maybe Terry. DaWife finally got to talk to her HR dept. about her upcoming retirement in detail. Besides a good pension she will receive several weeks pay for not taking any vacation time this year in a lump sum. With her pension and both our SS we will be just fine. But the real shocker was that years ago the Bank switched the retirement pension package and her old package just sat there gathering interest for over 20 years. She will get that as a large golden handshake . Our Hawaiian trip will be 1st class air both ways and she has a rather nice nest egg to sit on.

Back home after trying to get Fiddlerina to Iowa City for an appointment. There must be four inches of wet snow on the ground and it’s still falling heavily. After digging the car out and leaving the neighborhood (in 4-wheel drive) we got about a half mile down I-380 and realized we were unlikely to make it to Iowa City safely. Visibility was about 200 ft. and traffic was moving at around 25 to 30 MPH. In this kind of weather, I-380 gets littered with cars and 18-wheelers sliding every which way. No reason to take the risk.

Rocky is recovering from his cataract surgery yesterday. It was a LONG day yesterday and last night, but mostly from dealing with him on the drugs he was given during and post surgery. It took a full 12 hours for all that stuff to wear off. Just got back from his followup appointment. His eye pressure was normal and he was tracking with both eyes. They said everything looks good. We go back on a week. It is clear that he is already seeing better than with the cataract. He does not like the cone, but we take it off so he can eat, drink, and relieve himself. So he’s resigned to it.

Been kind of a weird couple days around here. On Wednesday there was a controlled burn scheduled for over on the Massanutten. So far, so good.
So the fire people lit it off Wednesday morning. By afternoon, winds had jumped to 20-30 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Everything started catching fire at that point and some folks started being evacuated. An area close to us had 15 houses burn to the ground and folks have been diligently taking up collections and putting the people and pets up in local schools. Although this was all close to us, nothing has impacted us so far.
Came in to work this morning (I took a vacation day yesterday) and the mountain between here (New Market) and Luray is still burning.
And then sometime yesterday, some major Mexican cartel boss escaped in DC and came out here somewhere. So all night long we've got helicopters flying around the neighborhood looking for that guy and any remaining fire stuff and I guess the next sign of the apocalypse.
So weird.

Got woke up at 5am to the sound of very loud ice on the windows. That went on for an hour before the heavy snow started to come down. Drove to the shop at 30mph so I could cancel all the house calls for today. Ended up staying until 4pm. When I came out, the streets were dry and all of the snow was off the cars. Still a couple of inches in the grass and ditches.
Hope to find the time this weekend to stop by Todd if he is up for more visitors.
Everyone keep the positive vibes headed his way, Sue and I will do what we can to help, but we are both in a bit of a bad way ourselves that I haven't shared. We are doing everything we can to get past it here too.
