OK, not to get political, but I was watching Morning Joe earlier and they had T Bone Burnett on promoting his new album "The Other Side". During the conversation he mentioned that he got some inspiration from some folks he met at a song circle at Joni Mitchell's house. Apparently "Joni Jams" are a regular thing. I wish I could sit in the corner and watch during a "Joni Jam"........

The Blue Moon Ramblers had this song in their repertoire. I met John Herald at an East Village bar, in 1998. We had a nice chat outside and I was pleased to find him down to earth and enjoyable company. A few years after he died, I purchased a Greenbriar Boys LP in a record shop, in Staunton, VA, that he had autographed.

I used to do Last Flight of Amelia Earhart. In my previous life my ex was a 99. Earhart founded a pilots’ group for women. 99 showed up for the first meeting so that became the name of the international group. I played that song a lot. I was doing it back in the mid-80s. Someone from Elderly Instruments helped me track down an obscure recording-no YouTube in those days. As I recall, it took some work to find one. I may still have it. I fingerpicked it on the J-45, as I recall. Husbands were 49 & 1/2ers in the organization. Lots of stories I could tell, but most too lengthy and buried deep in the past of my flying days.
I heard a guy do it at the Opera House in Traverse City, MI during one of the gatherings of members from around the country. I talked to the guy who told me where he heard it and that set me off tracking a recording down. This was maybe 1982-83. Anyway, I had mostly forgotten it because it is mostly forgettable.

I always thought Amelia’s last flight was a dumb song, but those pilot types loved it.

I always thought Amelia’s last flight was a dumb song, but those pilot types loved it. When the Greenbriar Boys recorded it, I could hardly believe anyone would write that song, let alone perform it. I got used to it eventually.

I got used to it eventually. Well, to the 99s, anything that mentioned Earhart was important, so they loved the song. I once played Capt. Noonan at an Air Show fly-in. My ex was Amelia who piloted us in and landed in front of the cheering crowd. Don’t recall where it was. That’s just one of the many crazy aspects of my past!
