This year I won the poetry competition for Arizona lawyers again. Five poems were published. A fairly diverse package. Some of you may enjoy reading them. I think arts competitions are a dubious idea but I get a lot of readers when my stuff is published in this magazine, and getting the poems read is the whole point. www.azattorneymag-digital.com/azattorneymag/library/page/202405/54/

Nicely written. I was an English major and read so much poetry that I began to dislike poetry for a number of reasons, except maybe for two or three poets (I still love Shakespeare). These I liked!

Very good, Don. It's interesting to me that there is such a niche, lawyer poetry. Though I guess it shouldn't surprise me. Some of my favorite poetry is cowboy poetry.

I read/liked the winners - Flake!
I loved the middle poetry - a little bit - aka the John Prine's song "Hello In There"

Congratulations, Don.
Are you familiar with the work of Iowa attorney and author, Jim Autry? He has authored several poetry collections, including "Life and Work: A Manager's Search for Meaning" and "Missouri Boy." His poetry often reflects on themes of nature, family, and the human experience.
Jim’s wife, Sally Pederson, served as Lieutenant Governor of Iowa for two terms.
They attended my parents church in Des Moines and were friends, though they became members after I left home. I did work with Sally’s brother in Cedar Rapids.
Jim is just the only other attorney-poet that came to mind.

I'm not familiar with him, Mark. Not many poets become famous these days.

I'm not familiar with him, Mark. Not many poets become famous these days. "As a poet, he is famous for his legal work." (not about any poet in particular)
