Per a Facebook post, Sam Ash is going out of business and closing all stores. They will be having closeout sales. If there's a store near you it might be a source of some bargains. Or not.

Bargains? Maybe. Maybe not. A lot of liquidated retailers will contract with a liquidator to do it for them. They can be so stingy...

I went to a Vancouver branch one time, played and didn't buy an amazing Morgan. I wish I had.

This is kind of old news here. The flagship store is across the street from my former skinflint monkey f*ck employers, and we knew about this a couple of months ago. I have rarely found anything specific I was looking for in a Sam Ash store. And customer service is nonchalant at best unless you're trying to purchase a $4K+ Gibson electric, because the owners of that company never had the sense to put their employees on a decent salary instead of relying on commission to motivate sales. I feel bad for the people who will be losing their jobs, and wonder what other music retailers will be able to absorb them—because the music retailers are disappearing slowly. And it's not just one shop that's closing—there are currently 44 Sam Ash locations in the US.

😃 I'm not bitter, Mike. I was just making an observation based on 17.5 years of experience.

My closest Sam Ash is on the far northeast side of Indy, 30-35 miles from me. I've not bought much from them.
I did buy two guitars from samash.com, a very nice new old stock Taylor GA7 when they were selling out their remaining Taylor acoustic series guitars. I got an excellent price. My other buy was an Ibanez AC240. After a while the bridge began to lift and I took it in to the store and they sent it back to Ibanez, who replaced the entire guitar. So I had no complaints in my limited dealings with them.

I have never been in a Sam Ash store. I have been in Guitar Center 3 times-once in IL, once in Iowa, and once in IN. I picked up a guitar box at the IN store so I was in and out in 5 minutes. I have lived such a deprived life.
I have noticed, since Joe Konkoly retired, Elderly has a lot more “as is” instruments for sale. Policy change? Laziness? Attempt to get rid of a backlog? Interesting- to me, anyway.

Sign of the times. Sam Ash could easily sell their online business name and may already have done so. Then they close down all the brick and mortar stores. It is possible that the new owners are Chinese selling Chinese made goods.

Slightly an aside here, but Stan Jay's family sold the Mandolin Brothers name to some guy in California who was going to turn it into an online retailer. Even though I have heard little since, here is what I found this morning.
The mailing address is in Sausalito, CA, but the phine number exchange is pure Brooklyn or Staten Island. This demands further investigation.
None of the links seem to work, and the site hasn't been updated since 2021. Hmm.

Like LJ, I've never set foot in a Sam Ash store.
But my experience with their business itself showed me they were pretty shady. I signed up with them (via an internet service) to direct people visiting my web site to their site (for a commission on any sales it generates). But the company stiffed me on paying any of the commissions I earned. So I dropped them. Musician's Friend on the other hand payed a lot of commissions during that same time.

There's a big Sam Ash in Clearwater next to Ruth Ekerd Hall and one in Tampa. I don't need any more temptations in my life............
