The love of my guitar life, my Goodall Grand Concert, sits 6 feet away from me, cased and silent for years because of my hands being shot. They will not repair themselves (RA, no cartilage left in either thumb joint, and no left hand strength to speak of, due to my pinched ulnar nerve that I took too long to address).
It pains me greatly that this fabulous instrument is not being played, kind of like a classic Ferrari not being driven.
But I don't just want to sell it to some random player. If I did sell it, it would have to be someone I know locally, or to one of the Soundhole gang.
But I'm open to any suggestions you might have, other than "Send it to me, dude!" The notion of it being a Circulated Soundhole Treasure has occurred to me, wherein forumites, especially those who play gigs, could be caretakers for X months, maybe record performances and share vids with us, then move it along to the next recipient.
Other ideas? We gotta get this thing out in public, it's just too good, despite what Muriel Anderson had to say about it.

BTW: Bill's Goodall has an Italian spruce top with Honduran rosewood back and sides, the same as Lonnie's Goodall and I think Goodall's best combo after hearing a LOT of Goodall's. The Podium was top dealer for Goodall and Collings guitars for ten consecutive years.

Mine was supposedly James' first guitar with the Hondo Rosewood/Ital Spruce combo, and it came about because Jeff Molde and Dave Roos of Podium had played several guitars at NAMM with those woods and asked James to do likewise.

The late great Don Clark's Goodall Parlor, purchased at Podium, also has that woods combo.

As does our dear David's Goodall, if I am not mistaken.

Am I right that the neck is 1-¾" at the nut? Too wide for what I do. I dearly wish I could make use of it. It's a treasure for sure.

During a Hammond visit to Alexandria a long time ago (which I believe included a gig at a local wine bar) I had a chance to look over that guitar. It sounded great and I was struck looking inside how heavily braced it was. That led me to start voicing differently and using less deflection in my tops which I think was a positive step in my lutherie journey.
It is very special Bill and if you are not destitute I would keep it but like you said possibly send it on some sabbaticals with players you trust and admire. There may well be a time in your later life when you would want to bequeath it to a special someone.
I definitely wouldn’t sell it.

Bill, I hope you find a great home for it. I so wish you could still play. I have good hands but no playing skill. If I could give you part of my dexterity and hand strength, enough that you could play, I would do so.

Yes, 1 3/4, and it has a Marty-installed Highlander pickup, best in the cosmos if installed correctly, which it was, natch. My first Highlander install was for the Podium when I still had my shop at General Music in St Paul. They brought the guitar to me because they had heard I was good at pickup installs and they had not found anyone that did a decent job at the fairly difficult Highlander install. I think nobody else did a good job was because they didn't do a accurate job and those pickups needed to be within +- .005" to work properly. I didn't have the correct bit so I called Highlander to find out if they would sell me one and they gladly just sent me one. I also talked to Tom there about the finer points of doing the install. I then sacrificed one of my micrometers to take depth measurements in a round bottom groove. That first install was a nail biter but I did it right and was a Highlander fan from then on. I still am but Highlander no longer exists. The best under saddle pickup ever made. The problem was that most stores did not want to learn or spend the time to get the install correct. I do have a IP-1 in my pickup drawer that I will use in a project some day.

Keep it. Let people play it when they visit you. It really isn't just a "thing". It's not going to waste. It's home.

It sounded great in your hands. When I picked it up, it didn’t sound the same. We weren’t meant for each other.
Nice guitar. It was great for you. I’m sure it’d be great for many fine players.

Do tell.
You may think this a crazy idea, Bill, but perhaps you would make some progress contacting staff and friends from Swannanoa (where Josh Turner will be an instructor this year)? They might have some ideas, or put you in touch with a few great fingerstyle players who could benefit from such an instrument. Just a long shot, but why not put feelers out in the guitar world?

I understand. Bought new in 2006, this 000 is the one I'll never sell ... or, will be the last one to go. Also Honduran Rosewood / Italian spruce.
