I just learned that it's National Cactus Day. Hug a prickly pear.

If I hug a prickly pear, it will be because I have fallen onto it.
Our roofing guy is supposed to show up this morning to do an inspection. There is not much of the morning left. It has been a month and a half since we first contacted him, so I hope he makes an appearance.
I will be taking Mr. H to Home Depot. He has been working on window screens. He had decided that one of them could be aluminum instead of plastic. But when he installed the spline he found out how fragile the aluminum screen is. So we will go buy more plastic screen. Then stop for groceries on the way home. Thinking some kind of stir fry for tonight. Last night we had calamari steaks, couscous, salad, and a bottle of wine. There was no choir practice because too many people were unable to be there. When you only have 12 or 14 singers, missing a few makes for not being a choir.

Taking a day off today. I changed the strings on my old Gibson lap steel earlier this week; while I was at it the taped-on note guides on the fretboard started to come off. I removed them all, and the tape residue on the fretboard cleaned right up. The residue came off the sides of the neck as well, but there is some finish damage. Cosmetic only; because it's on the treble side you don't see it when playing, and of course you don't really touch the neck, so it's really not noticeable (as opposed to cosmetic damage on an "armpit" guitar). It's a seriously cool guitar, and it sounds pretty good as well. The electronics could probably use a little work - the pots are a little scratchy, and perhaps a new capacitor would help. But I might leave that to the next owner, whenever that may be. Ace hardware sells a decent spray electro cleaner but you might try just rotating the pots back and forth for a while.

Gorgeous day here. Went to cardiac rehab and then cut down a tree that was hanging over my garage. My neighbor had rented a wood chipper and graciously consented to grinding up a lot of it saving me a trip to the dump. It took me a while to get my gas powered chain saw to enjoy its first start of the season. My neighbor had a battery powered one. Really slick.
Finished by transplanting a bunch of hostas. My plan is to eventually cover my front yard in them.

The roofer showed up just before 3 PM, which I believe is not morning. We were back from Home Depot, grocery shopping, and gassing up the car. I was still putting away groceries. We need one roof area repaired. Recoating the roof could wait until next year, but we will have them schedule that ASAP, which apparently is September or October. We also need to get the HOA to prune a tree limb that's rubbing on the roof.
Tonight's stir fry will contain pork, Napa cabbage, zucchini, and green onions.

Power out from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for "upgrades." Makes it damn hard to work.
Furnace repair guy says I should spend $18,000 to upgrade my 17 year old AC unit and 2 year old furnace. I said, just make it work for $1,800. We will see! (I can do a bunch of the AC upgrades)
Tomorrow morning I am headed to my brother's farm: He is hosting a sporting clays shoot. It has been over a year since I shot a gun so I do not anticipate high scores. I am taking a gas-powered semi-auto 20 gauge and light loads to be gentle on my failing shoulder.
