Stopped off this afternoon for fish and chips at Stout's Pub, and the audio system was playing pop music from the '60s and '70s, including this Jethro Tull classic, whose opening lyrics make a perfect backdrop to pleasant dining: Sitting on a park bench Eying little girls with bad intent Snot is running down his nose Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes Hey, Aqualung Drying in the cold sun Watching as the frilly panties runI was a die-hard fan of Jethro Tull for many years, and attended most of their concerts here from 1968 through the mid-1980s. Ian Anderson's acoustic guitar playing always mesmerized me; he played small guitars, usually 0-sized, and just crushed it. This is one of many favorites, a bit dark but not as greasy as "Aqualung."
So British!

I have two copies of the original release of that album. They've got to be worth, what, 5 bucks each?

Yes because I chose the body shop over their cheaper alternative. I’m OK with it, they did a great job. I hope they left in your handcrafted tone-wood fender plugs! I did get a compliment and a thanks for leaving them a little long for ease of removal.

I liked the early Tull, moved on about the time of Aqualung.
On July 4 weekend, 2007, my younger cousin's Tull cover band, Warchild, managed to get a gig at Club Iridium in the theater district here. I don't know exactly how he wangled it, but they engaged original Tull bass player Glenn Cornick to come and play a few of the old Jethro Tull pieces with them. This was seven years before Cornick died of congestive heart failure. He was still a great bassist. They had a blast having him play with them.
My cousin, a practicing veterinarian, is the drummer. On keyboards is a family friend who is a retired ophthalmological surgeon and classical pianist who has been winning international competitions since retiring from medicine.

Good stuff, excellent cover band. The only thing missing is Ian Andersons stage antics. I always liked Glenn Cornicks bass playing. Saw the band at the Filmore East in 1970. I believe this clip is from the concert.

Yeah, that front man was kind of conservative in the antics department. For his final act, though, he was shot dead in a confrontation with Nassau County police a few years later. On his own front lawn.

Details were sketchy. His behavior was allegedly erratic, and he sort of came at the officers from behind his house. He may have been armed, as I recall, but I am not certain anymore. It was a long time ago.
