Cloudy most of the day today. Possible rain, but not likely. It should keep the temps a tad lower. Nothing going today.

Good morning. Listening to some Beethoven string concertos on the kitchen speaker and waiting to see if Her Grace will awaken so I can make some breakfast and cappuccino for two, or if I'll brew for myself and repeat later.
It has been a wet few days in the Northeast, and for me, not popularized by our rainstorm road adventure with non-functioning windshield wipers. Humid and hot today; the forecast reads a high of 93° with heavy thundershowers this evening. Cloudy and kind of blah-looking out the window right now. V is at the park with the dog. She has a rather broad social circle of morning dog walkers. I don't get involved.
I have been reading film director and writer Sam Fuller's memoir, and have almost finished, so today I think I will remain in the cool indoors and see if I can finish it. What a life that man had. I've also been away from guitars for a few days, so some guitar time should also occur between meal prep and cleanup.
It was so good to see my old friend in Northampton. She is still the upbeat, charming, positive young woman I remember from the late 1980s before she left New York. Her Grace was duly impressed, and if she ends up going to Smith (yet TBD), she will have a local family friend and faculty member nearby. That would certainly put this old worry wart at ease.
On edit: My quote of the day from yesterday— "You can't drive on an Interstate in the rain with no wipers as darkness is falling."
Have a pleasant Sunday. Stay cool.

Good morning.
53F-82F Sunny.
I will get out this afternoon to enjoy the sunshine while running errands. First I'm going to finish up a long put off project I started yesterday.
Many years ago I made a switching box for the inputs on my bench test amp, a Centaur A440. It has two channels, one 1/4" line and XLR and the other 1/4" passive piezo and 1/4" active piezo. I got tired of bending down under the bench to change inputs so I designed the box that attaches to the front of the bench. One switch selects which channel and the other which piezo input on the second channel. Later I realized that if I made the input stereo I could test two channel pickups with only slight wiring changes, worked like a charm. That first one, as necessity is the mother of invention, was made from whatever I had around the shop and now the switches are getting rather worn. The replacement is all new parts ordered for this project. One of the nice features is that it changes from mono to stereo passively, It's mono until you plug in a stereo cable. It also has a output jack for going into a tuner or test equipment. While it's interesting it's not something 99% of you would ever need but it has been a fun project for me that I've been trying to get to. The next project is a magnetic pickup Peak Frequency Response Decade Box.

Starting out at 79F and 93% humidity. The monsoon thunderstorm early yesterday afternoon brought us almost 3 inches of rain and a 3 1/2 hour power outage. I opened the blinds in my music room and played guitar. We played a game of Bananagrams in semi-darkness. Luckily I had finished the laundry in the morning. And luckily the storm had brought the temperature down to 80F. Also luckily we had planned burgers and coleslaw for dinner. I had made the slaw early in the day and had already pulled hamburger patties out of the freezer. Mr. H grilled the burgers. We quickly pulled the slaw and condiments out of the fridge, dressed the burgers, and quickly threw things back in the fridge. Had just sat down for our candlelight dinner when the power came back on.
Earlier in the day we got a call from our friend in Scottsdale who has been taking care of her invalid husband for a year and half. Mostly she just needed to talk. For an hour and 40 minutes. Today is her husband's 87th birthday and it's not much of a life. And her mother passed away in France last month and it has been a real mess dealing with the French estate and with arranging to ship the body to Scottsdale for the funeral and burial. I think we did come up with some sound opinions/suggestions about taxes, long term care, life insurance, and investment advisors. Like why does she still have life insurance on herself when there is a cash value and they have no kids and husband is not going to live much longer? If her investment advisor has put her all in cash and is trying to sell her an annuity when she's in her late 70s, why can't she just get rid of him and avoid the fees? If her CPA failed to pay her estimated tax because he "forgot" and she had to pay a penalty, what good is he? (I personally would be filing a complaint with the State Board of Accountancy.) If husband insists on remaining at home until he dies why pay for LTC insurance?
We're not experts on any of this, but are also not overwhelmed by being in the middle of it.

Darkness falls. The rain continues in torrents, partially obscuring what little there is to see on the Interstate. Dread creeps in as the wipers slow, then stutter, then stop.

A beautiful morning, but also a lazy morning. I should do something interesting or fun, but right now I can't think of what that would be.

In fact, @john B, the wipers stopped suddenly. One last swipe and that was it.

For sale: baby shoes, never worn. It turns out our kid has really big feet! These didn't fit so we're selling them. Darkness falls. The rain continues in torrents, partially obscuring what little there is to see on the Interstate. The wipers freeze, then I freeze. Reason takes over and I pull to the side of the road to wait out the storm.

The next project is a magnetic pickup Peak Frequency Response Decade Box. Box all done and installed. White switch selects channel. Black switch selects input on ch2. Two lower switches are mutes for each channel when testing stereo installs. Main Mono/Stereo input is on the right end side and AUX out on the left end.
My old Centaur A440, yes I'm going to clean it. Cables from the box going to their respective inputs. Only the Ch1 cable is grounded to the amp. The other two cables only have their shield/ground connected at one end. This helps stop ground loop problems, too many paths to ground.

We had a good gig this afternoon at a really cool venue in a nearby town. Everyone played well and it was a lot of fun. Weather was perfect.

Me Darling Wife is home a day early. The girls have to work tomorrow and she didn't want to stay up there alone so she came back a day early. Which is fine by me as I was getting lonely and missed my girl. She got me a new Panama hat with a nice breezy woven top.
Tomorrow we will go to breakfast and then Lenscrafters to have her new glasses corrected as the anti-glare treatment is driving her nuts. We are also going to order prescription sunglasses for both of us which I really prefer. I'm hoping they can do mirrored ones which have always been my favorite but went out of fashion long ago.
