Who was that nimble thumbed gentleman? I think that is Toby Walker playing the Soldier's March.

Super-great gathering at the Radtkes' place this afternoon. Food was fab -- nobody grills better brats than Dave -- and there was a nice group of music-makers who repaired to the music room after chowing down: half a dozen guitar dudes, male and female singers, a flutist, and Melva filling in beautifully on her compact accordion. So sweet.
Thanks so much, Melva and David!

We also had a lovely time at the Radtke's and yes Dave's brats were quite fabulous. I had mine with stone ground mustard, cheese, pickle and spicy pickled banana peppers. I also munched my way through a whole table of other snack goodies. We both went down for a nap as soon as we got home.

Man, if I didn’t have to drive 7 hours, and could have begged an invite, I would have been there, too. Maybe even without an invite. I could have blended in.

Well it's a good thing we both got a good nap in. The rain held off and the Eastside of St Paul sounds like WWIII and the streets are full of smoke. Both cats came in as soon as the bangs started and Riley is sitting by an open window not too worried about the noise now that he's inside. Simon is in my lap very much needing assurance that everything is okay.

Rained all day here but it was perfect for my Denver kid Matt and myself as we made great progress on a fireplace surround/mantle we are making for their place. Some nice quarter sawn oak. Our first try at biscuit joinery and it went well. The rest of the crowd was a little more bored as were the dogs. No fireworks of any magnitude.

It is Hell Night. And Casper is downstairs in his bomb shelter (well stocked with comic books and dog biscuits). The firework action around here is pretty sparse, but all it takes is one lady finger and a sparkler and he packs it in for the night.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BtzpaCZnjAI did yard stuff, walked the dog.. yesterday Claire the dog stole a flank steak off the counter but I got it back before she ate much. So we had leftover fajitas today. Our daughter got married this afternoon. The engagement was quick, but she seems happy, so we're happy. She propped up her phone at a good vantage point to view the ceremony and zoomed it for us and a select group of family and friends. We checked in with some folks after long times with no contact. What a world. Happy Independence Day, everybody.
