Howard, the sweet photo of young Grace made me think of this tune...
Very sweet and poignant. She's 17 now. I call her "Your Grace" because she is kind of a princess. Her given name, although some people call her Faith, Charity, or Grace, is Hope.

Good morning. My dog Dax is very relieved the fireworks are over. They went on till past one last night. Nothing much on the books for today. I'll try to squeeze in a bike ride between rain storms. Have a great day. Is the dog named after the Star Trek character?

Posted on Facebook by a guy with the handle Stonekettle (and reposted by one of my meatspace friends): Thank your garbage man, the one that will be cleaning up the trash in the park you leave after today's celebration. Thank the cashier working for minimum wage so you can buy the hotdog buns and mustard you forgot for your BBQ. Thank the small business owner who had the courage to put up a pride flag in the window of his shop in your small midwestern town so others don't feel alone. Thank the paramedics who'll be on duty today treating heatstroke and alcohol poisoning during the parades. Thank the lifeguards at the beach too. Thank the guy who cut the grass in the boiling heat so you can play baseball with your friends today. Thank the people who baked the pies and cooked the burgers and poured the drinks you're going to enjoy today. Thank the undocumented immigrants who toiled in the fields to pick the salads you're going to enjoy today. Hell, thank the teachers who taught you about this day. Thank the firefighters who be putting out the fires you start today. Thank the veterinarians who gave you the drugs to calm your pets tonight while your neighbors light off fireworks made in China.
We veterans get thanked all the time, we don't need yet another holiday of forced gratitude.
Today, thank all the invisible Americans you take for granted every day, the ones who NEVER get a pat on the back, but keep the country running anyway.
Don't thank me, thank those people.

Not necessary. It is easy to confuse because of the way I refer to her in my posts.

Funny how my job can affect my off-work hours at times. I edited a piece this morning about various ways to create summertime-special Cobb salads, and it reminded me that nearby Stout's Pub has one on their menu. So when my shift ended, I motored over there, ordered a happy-hour-priced glass of Portuguese rose and the salad. Whilst enjoying the John Deere Classic golf tourney on the telly, I consumed all of the guacamole, cherry tomatoes, hard-boiled egg quarters, blackened shrimp and maybe half of the mixed greens. I brought home nearly all of the chopped bacon, bleu cheese, shredded carrots, diced cukes and the remaining greens, plus a wee container of dressing -- all of which should make a nice lunch tomorrow. Restaurant prices these days seem much more tolerable when you get two meals out of one purchase.

Back from the camp. Several neighbors were there with their horses. Ergo, NO FIREWORKS!
Major win in my book.

Nice thunderstorm blowing through Brooklyn at the moment. Big booms. Dog hiding under the table.
Today's challah came out great!

Posted on Facebook by a guy with the handle Stonekettle..... Jim Wright is his name. I don’t know if you've encountered his Sci-fi short stories. (I haven’t). I am a Facebook and Threads follower of his. He mostly posts photographs he's taken of birds. At other times he posts entertaining and sometimes acerbic political commentary. He posts short essays when he feels the need to at the website - Stonekettle Station.
