Strib beer columnist:
On a hot summer evening a light, crisp lager might be the way to go. Super Mega Lager from Drekker Brewing Co. in Fargo is just that. This straightforward American lager has low bitterness and alcohol, so it won’t tax your palate or leave you feeling woozy. Light malt sweetness with hints of corn supports an easy dose of lemon and spice hops.

Haven't seen it, but it sounds good to me.
Sort of.
When I came out on the other side of my medical adventures last year, I discovered I had lost my taste for beer, especially the more robust types I had previously preferred. Gradually, a taste for light lagers returned, but I have become a one and done with a 12 pack of Bud Lite or some such lasting me a month. And as I am very content with these cheap light beers, I don't see any sense or reason to re-cultivate my taste for beers that cost twice as much with twice the alcohol and calories. If it happens organically [sorry], well, I don't fight Act of God stuff. But it will have to happen without my seeking it (as the very best things do).

Interesting, Paul. Twice last year I wound up in the ICU with seizures. Alcohol can be a contributing factor in seizures so I was directed to cease all alcohol consumption. I did. The docs ultimately concluded that my problems were caused by low sodium levels in my blood. The sodium has been under control for over a year now. I'm no longer prohibited from drinking...but I got out of the habit. My total booze consumption in the last 13 months has been a half glass of wine. An unwelcome side effect of beer-free life is that I lost 20 pounds I didn't need to lose.

I also quit drinking alcohol about 2.5 years ago because it was triggering severe acid reflux at night. I also quit eating cheese, except for some grated into salad dressing occasionally, on the advice of my cardiologist. The unintended side effect is that as of today I am down about 22 pounds, which is good because I had kind of ballooned. (I did have a beer at my 70th birthday party this past March.)
Along with the weight, the acid reflux disappeared.

Interesting. Over the past several months, I too have cut way back on the alcahol consumption. It wasn’t particularly planned, or motivated by anything special, I just don’t seem to want as much as I did previously. I’m drinking half a beer or a small glass of wine once or maybe twice a week now, compared to nightly before whatever prompted this. For some reason, I just don’t crave it anymore. I’ve also cut down on the morning coffee. Again, no reason motivating this, I just seem to want less. I’ve managed to lose twenty lbs, and would like to drop more, but irs not easy. Now if I could cut down on the evening ice cream…Anyway, all this is interesting. As David Bowie sang, Changes.

This current hot spell may change all that.
