I got the email today. They are coming to both Birmingham and Atlanta, so I may try to go see them.

I could either go to IdiotJam (8+ hour drive each direction) or hang around South-Central Indiana and buy tickets to see Gillian and Dave. Hmm.

How about a track from the new album? "Empty Trainload of Sky": Other links (Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Tidal, etc., HEREFull band (just a warning for those of you expecting minimal instrumentation). In fine form.

Or you could attend Idiot Jam then drive up to St. Paul on Sunday, hang at Marty’s shop and go to the Welch-Rawlings concert Monday night (or even Tuesday night). Bring Erin and you’ll have a lovely trip down the “Great River Road” before heading back east.

But it seems like ages since I've seen the IdiotJam crowd. I know what I'm choosing (IN vs IA). But I'll give thought to your plan, too, on the off-chance I want to extend my trip.

I have a love-hate relationship with GW. I love the acoustic nature of their music. I really like the melancholy groove of this one and many of their songs. But her nasally tone just holds me back. And I can't understand her words. Even with headphones. That probably irritates me more than anything. I can handle the nasally plaintive tone, but I can't understand what she's singing about. Lyrics matter !

Interesting enough, I recorded it in Audacity and dropped it from Gm to Dm for a better vocal range for me (should I try to do it. I feel like I need a train song). And in that lower register, I can make out her words much better.
But the song is 50% instrumental, and I won't be able to fill that in on my own. But playing with another guy that likes to improvise, it could work.

True, Marshall and RickW, no one knows the song yet.

If I was. “Looper” I could work up some lead over chords. By I’ve avoided that gear/complexity so far.

I’ll get it but so far she’s yet to top Revival in my humble opinion.
