Good morning. It's still dark here. It was quite comfortable sitting on the patio and sipping coffee.
Our lab Barney died in January. My wife has decided it's time to get another dog. She found an organization that places "rescued" labs in new homes in Arizona. They visit your home and interview you. They require that everyone in your household meet prospective adoptees. You also meet whoever is keeping the dog on a "foster" basis so you can discuss any peculiarities the dog may have. That may sound a little excessive to some but I think it sounds entirely appropriate. I wouldn't necessarily balk at adopting a dog that has baggage but I'd want to have some idea of what the baggage is.
Today will involve catching up on this and that after our vacation.
Enjoy your day.

Good morning.
64F-77F cloudy.
Shop and errands. Yesterday's errands wore me out and I ended up taking a rather long nap. I'll take it a bit easier today.
I will see if the airlines have their computers back on track so I can book our Kauai tickets.

Weather is a repeat of yesterday.
Off to the gym, thence to a medical appointment for minor stuff, then more sanding.
Cornflake - good luck with your forthcoming lab, and entering another dog cycle. (We owe the concept of "dog cycles" to our beloved Sekhmet)

A very pleasant morning, we could have some showers this afternoon, probably during music practice.

Hot and smoky. And not the good kind.

I think Hot & Smoky used to do comedy in Vaudeville.

Morning!
I am the biggest fan of labs in the world. Goldens and labs. Them's my pooches!
But, if I lived in a city, especially in a city with a hot climate, I would give a close look to a Boston terrier. They don't take up much room or shed much hair when they are inside (hot climate), small dogs with short hair tolerate heat better (hot climate), and while they love walks and will walk all you want to walk, a small Boston just won't require, or ask for, as much exercise as vigorous lab, as all things are proportional (including the amount of poop that needs to be picked, much, much, much less poop).
There are other good small dogs, but I am familiar with Bostons as my brother has had two and is on his third. They are affectionate, spunky, cuddly, and, very important, they don't "yip" "yip, yip, yip". They are quiet and don't bark much at all ever, and if they do, it isn't a yip.
At first, Bostons do look ugly and, if used to labs and such, don't even seem to qualify as a dog. But, they are spunky little farts and are all dog, and will win you over.

epaul, I have no doubt that I could grow fond of a Boston terrier. I never met a dog I didn't like except for the small, yappy ones. But we've had labs for forty years. They're not all alike any more than humans are, but the ones we've had all had a similar temperament, and it's one we like. Why experiment?
We have a big lot and there's ample room for a lab to run around. Waste disposal has always been my chore and it doesn't faze me.

Waste disposal has always been my chore and it doesn't faze me. I think you meant "phase". Just helping Bill out as he has an extra heavy workload today.

I received my new expresso machine and picked up some decaf beans. I made an okay Americano. My first coffee in 3 or 4 days.
Another slow work day - just some contracts to have signed and notarized this p.m., bills to pay and online court filing.
I was concerned about Cosmic Wonder's absence lately so I called him last night. He is doing fine, but says he just doesn't have much to say.
Wordle in five.

Back to normal after 20 hours without electricity -- not pleasant. One of the longest, darkest, most silent nights I've ever endured. Oh, well, all is OK now.
Except I'll need to use up 7 hours of vacation time and toss out quite a bit of food.
Turns out Xcel's new transformers that talk to each other don't always tell the truth.

Well that sucks Bill.
Finally finished the Walter Isaacson bio of Elon Musk. Pretty comprehensive as he was basically imbedded with him for a couple of years.
I didnβt know anything about him when I started and now know too much. He was a Trump hater but after his son identified as a woman and became estranged Elon has become militantly anti-woke and has endorsed the Republican ticket.
He would be a tough guy to work for but sure is not afraid to take big risks. All the roads of his many ventures appear to lead to his ultimate goal of colonizing Mars in his lifetime.

THEN, I ran up to Trader Joe's for a couple of things and as I'm just about to pull onto Lexington to head home at a very busy intersection at a very busy time of day, my car dies in the turn lane and won't restart! Miraculously, a tow truck happened by, was available, we added some fuel to the car and tried to jump it, but nolo fiero. We added fuel cuz I recalled that the last time I filled up from like a third of a tank, it took way more gas than it should have, so I think I might have a gauge problem. Anyhoo, the car is now safely at a dealership I know and trust, I have a rental Accord that looks cool but is just a dog, and many hundreds of dollars will reach escape velocity in the next few days. And I'm scarfing a Culver's cheesebourger and chugging a cheap cabernet. With a car show on the telly.
