Good morning. I meant to watch some of the Olympics last night but we got drawn into watching the Diamondbacks game.
Need to do some weeding today. In summer we tend to postpone yard work if possible but sometimes things look so bad that fixing them won't wait.
All's well here. Enjoy your day.

Good morning. The Olympics are churning away on the various tv channels. So many choices. I think I'll go for a bike ride.
Have a great day!

Good morning.
71F-91F sunny
Going to get rather warm today so the AC will be on. Simon will enjoy it by laying out on our front walk looking like a dead cat. Saturday shop awaits.

Headed to Sweetwater today, which is actually just a pitstop on my way to Kalamazoo. A cousin I haven't seen in 40+ years is visiting aunts and uncles in MI this weekend, so I'm headed up for a mini family reunion. Other cousins I haven't seen in 10+ years. It should be fun.

Good morning.
The two teens seem to be sleeping in this morning; they had a big day yesterday with a trip to the Upper East Side and the Met Museum and then a walk through central Park to the West Side for lunch.
I am enjoying my morning coffee with steamed oat milk today. I am off dairy products indefinitely per the advice of my doctor. This will take some adjustment, taste-wise, although after the first sip it ain't too bad. I have "Music from Big Pink" spinning on the stereo, and it is another low-humidity day in Brooklyn. After the girls wake and I serve breakfast, a walk will be in order before it gets too hot. And more reading, more guitarβI had a great 2-hour session with my Cindy T-style yesterday.
Yet another of my father's photographs has appeared on the Web, from the Library of Congress Collection, free to use. This has really cut into the income that was once produced by the Getty Images account he left me. It makes me wonder if he ever truly thought the whole thing through. I have a Google Alert set up for every time his credit line or name appears on the Web, and every so often I receive an email with a link like the one above. He gave it away with no regard for his heirs (I'm thinking about my two kids). Anything to get his name on a bronze plaque on a wall somewhere.
Current mood, thinking about this:
π
Hoping everyone enjoys this day.

Speaking of heirs, all are coming over for combi birthdays celebration and a going-away for my daughter's family. Cooked a giant roast and Wendy prepared other Southern goodies. Games, love and laughter are in the offing.

Looks to be hot, windy, and muggy. Otherwise great. Usual combo of yard work, shop work, a little exercise, and watching the Olympics. An American got bronze in the womenβs time trial just now.

Another glorious summer day on the Third Coast
Kayaked around a small lake yesterday afternoon. Pretty quiet - lots of fisherpeople, no water skiers or jet skis. Wabasis Lake is largely surrounded by forests and wetlands. I was disappointed that I didn't see any Great Blue Herons, until I saw a Bald Eagle.
Got home, offloaded the kayak, loaded up guitar and banjo, headed out to the old time jam. Three of us around a fire ring surrounded by pine trees. Fiddle, banjo and guitar. I mostly played guitar, beginning to re-learn old-time guitar. Some great moments when all three of us managed to play the right notes at the same time.
Muddling about the house today, putting stuff away before kidz and grandkidz arrive for dinner.

A very noisy morning here. The tree service is cutting down and chipping the dead ash tree in my front yard. When they finish, they'll move to my next door neighbors and remove an even bigger tree for him.

It be getting quite warm. The shop is nice and cool but when I came upstairs for a break it's a big change. Turned up my office AC and I'll crank up the living room one a bit too. I haven't looked but I bet Simon is out front happy as a clam.
EDIT: He's under his Yew bush and refusing to come in. I''ll put a water bowl out for him in the shade.

Morning!
Yesterday was hot, hot, hot and windy. 90 degrees with wind. So I spent a chunk of the afternoon watering everything. Then it rained two inches overnight. So it goes. So it goes.
I guess we needed it the rain as it all soaked in and everything looks great. Goofy rain. No wind, just straight down like standing under a shower head. A long, narrow band heading off northeast of us got 4-5 inches. No storm damage or wind, just heavy rain.
Cat got caught in the downpour. Let her in during a break. She was one wet, pissed off, cat.

Back from a pleasant morning of plane-spotting at the MSP Viewing Area, followed by important foodie research at Centro, in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays, and I thoroughly enjoyed two of these: Breakfast TacosNixta corn tortilla, scrambled eggs, potato, chorizo, poblano, pickled red onion, cheese, salsa cruda. Nixtamalized tortillas have become all the rage in Twin Cities Mexican eateries. Once you've had them, other corn tortillas just don't measure up. I chased the tacos with a nice Hibiscus Lemonade. This was a research trip because within a couple weeks, a fourth branch of Centro will open -- in Roseville!

Temp has reached 91 here, with a 70-degree dewpoint, so I'm hunkered down with the A/C set at 78, and watching PGA golf from the nearby TPC Twin Cities course, where the players are physically heat-relieved by steady, but gusty winds, but of course that is playing havoc with their play, as well.
I trust that Letson has survived a long outdoor wait to get into the hockey arena in St. Cloud for tonight's Trump/Vance rally. I mean, I just assume he's there.

I'm also hunkering down in the AC, though while listening to American Routes on KBEM's stream. I wouldn't cross the street to piss on Trump or Vance.
On our way out to do errands around 2:00, we noticed that the westbound tailback at the main Mississippi crossing was longer than we'd ever seen it. It could have been just the result of the University Bridge (which is in our neighborhood) being closed for roadwork, but I suspected it was actually people arriving early for the Trump rally. After doing our shopping (on the east side of the river), we took the other open bridge to get home and saw an even longer line at the turn onto 5th Avenue, and sure enough, as we approached the university area, there were pedestrians heading for the hockey-arena side of campus. I couldn't even get to the parking lot at C's office--there were city cops blocking the way (it leads to a back way to the athletic facilities), and she wasn't even allowed to walk the 50 yards to her office without showing her university ID.
All the university parking lots are full, and our streets are parked up. The outgoing traffic's going to be apocalyptic later tonight.

The outgoing traffic's going to be apocalyptic later tonight. But the vehicle occupants will be freshly filled with wisdom and inspiration.

We cleaned up the beach house and made it home early. I saw a neighbor's yard service guys unload their damn leaf blower and tools so I decided to take a quick motorbike ride, rather than listening to the leaf blower for an hour. It was nice. Light traffic and discovered a few more windy back roads.

No cooking tonight, too hot. Deep fried beef tacos and cheese enchiladas from Boca Chica.
