Ukraine's incursion into Russia doesn't seem likely to change the big picture very much. Russia still has a lot more troops, a lot more armaments, a lot more everything. But the incursion is messing with Putin's mind and making the Russians look bad. It's cheering the Ukrainians up. It's cheering me up.

Yes.
Next time Kiev is hit, airmail one to the Kremlin. Take the fun out of his war.
And the turn in the electoral tide over here has to also be messing with his head big time. Your best time to make a deal might be right now, Putin. You might not get your orange puffball.

Don, I had the same reaction to the news, though the citizens displaced by this action are as innocent as the citizens in Ukraine. War just sucks. But, the more it sucks for Putin, the better.

I agree, Paul. I also remind myself that the Russian troops are not the culprits. Putin is.

It's a ballsy move. Gets them outta the slugging out defensive situation. At least temporarily. But Russia has the big advantage in numbers and doesn't seem to care how many troops get lost in the meat grinder. So, we'll see how this plays out. It's certainly an escalation with the Ukes "invading" a neighbor. Justified? Depends on how you look at it. Putin's boys are yelling at the UN about being invaded. (While Western countries sit on their hands).
The Ukes better have other contingency plans, like moving the fight elsewhere. They have to keep one step ahead of the slow moving Russian Bear. Going toe to toe with them is very tough proposition.

Yeah. They blew it a year ago by advertising their "offensive." The Ruskies are historically great at digging in against a known invasion. They were ready. This is a smarter move.
Hope it bears fruit this time.

(actually, they're more innocent. There's no evidence that the people of Russia cheered the Russian invasion of Ukraine as the Palestinian people cheered October 7)

It occurred to me that U could (finally) be using the western Equipment, tanks& APCs, to good use. They’re not trying a frontal assault to dug in positions. They can be marauders. Make the slower moving Russian bear chase them. Then quickly move elsewhere.
