At a camp I tried batting against 80mph pitches. Ball was in the catcher’s mitt before I started my swing.

I have the 25-30 year old Showcase, which is identical to the Elliott, bouncing around in my Mossman case. Figured it might be nice to get a leather pouch for it, so I checked Etsy and found just the leather thing. Nice looking capo pouch made of rich, chocolatey leather. A couple weeks ago I ordered it. Nice. My McKinney style capos are all Elliotts. When I started playing in a band and needed to have my guitar stay in tune when using a capo, I switched from the heavy-duty Bill Russel I’d been using to the Hamilton screw-back style. I’d put a slight bend in it to account for the neck radius. It served me for many years.

I don’t recall how the Showcase fell into my lap but I do recall talking to Bill Stokes about it since they came with a serial number that he registered in the name of the owner. Other than used, I don’t think they are available anymore. Not sure what became of Stokes.

Reports of my demise are almost not true. God I feel old. Been fighting an upper respiratory infection since Monday night. Work and personal life has been so out of hand that spending time here on the board hasn't been a priority. Will attempt to stop by more often so I don't get wellness check calls. I did get to see Dub and Fiddlerina a week ago (they were out standing in their field, well a park, but anyway) however brief it may have been. I have no doubts they will be in fine fettle for the IJam this year. I, however, may be my old unprepared self, we'll see. Joe, it was so great to see you there. We thought we’d be playing for the trees and seeing you walking down the hill towards us gave us a huge boost. We had been hired by the city of Iowa City as part of a series they called Music at the Cabins or something like that. There are a couple of log cabins there in City Park and they had in mind some cabin-appropriate music and craftspeople setting up tables to demonstrate their crafts and sell their wares. I think we were the final act in the Friday night series. Previous acts (all friends of ours) had no audience at all, except the city employee who was paid to come to be sure we fulfilled our contract. Fiddlerina had played the first Friday in the series together with Bob and Kristie Black and no people showed up at all. The acts on other nights had the same experience, no audience and no craftspeople. I have no idea why Iowa City funded the series and then did nothing to advertise it or otherwise support its success. Maybe someone who loved those two cabins endowed the series and the city allowed it but provided no support. Late Thursday night, prior to our show, Fiddlerina asked me to put a notice on Facebook. I mostly try to avoid FB but agreed to do it. (I always agree to pretty much anything Fiddlerina wants.) so, as it turned out, you came, along with a bunch of other people and we had a very nice time. We had a bunch of family there which was another very nice surprise as we seldom tell friends and family when we’re performing somewhere. One guy has a local radio show and bought a CD to play over the air. As far as I know, we were the only act in the series to have an audience and you, Joe, were a big part of that. Thanks again for coming out.

Just back from the dog park. My son's dog was puking when we left. We got home and her snout looked like a warty gourd, with sporadic bumps on her legs and back. Two Benadryl's and 30 minutes later, she was back to normal and wanting to play fetch some more. We suspect a honey bee got her at the park.

Great final stage of the women’s Tour de France on Alp d’Huez. Cycling fans here should watch it.
