Good morning. It'll be a tolerable day here in terms of weather. I'll skip church and go to the botanical garden at 6:00 for my morning walk.
We decided to adopt the lab we met Friday evening. He'll be moving in later today. It'll be good to have a dog in the house again.
All's well. Enjoy your day.

Today we start an Official Chicagoland Heat Wave with temperatures in the mid to upper 90s for at least the next 3-4 days. Oh, fun! Whole lotta sweat in’ goin’ on. Drink lots of water-preferably clean water.

Good morning. Looks like a nice weather day here in Florida. Last night was International Bat Night. I went out to The Chinsegut Nature Center for a presentation on bats and to observe them emerging from the bat boxes at the center. The little guy in the gloved hand has a damaged wing and cannot fly so the biologist who gave the presentation is raising it at home. Good stuff. The usual routine is on the agenda for today. Be well, be happy.

Glen Elvig stopped by last evening on his way back from Fergus Falls where he was part of a chain of folks delivering a rescue Great Dane from Tennessee to western North Dakota. He brought us a pineapple and we gave him a sack of tomatoes. Good swap .

Hello from here. Enjoying my morning cappuccino, listening to the Chambers Brothers, and planning the rest of the day.
We may have to start renting our basement storage locker, which we have owned outright for almost 21 years, purchased from a former shareholder. Of course we have no paperwork to back it up—the deal was a handshake and a check. The Board is going to institute a new policy, and from what I can make out from the BS legalese language in the five-page PDF management sent, anyone who owns will soon have to enter into a "lease agreement" with the co-op, and pay an extra $45 a month, or the co-op will either seize the space or buy it back for $2K and make it available for another shareholder to rent. This seems like nothing more than a money grab to me. We need this extra bit of space for things that don't fit into the apartment closets. I don't know if I should be pissed off or happy that there will be more money coming into the co-op's operating fund.
My first medical bill from earlier this summer has shown up in my patient portal. They used to send a paper bill in the mail and I'd mail them a check. Now I suppose you have to print out the invoice yourself and mail it in with payment... printing paper is cheap but inkjet cartridges aren't. I really don't want to pay medical bills by credit card. Anyone else feel the same way? Does it matter? Why are we here?
Well. At least I'll get to play electric guitar with my old friend later, and get some of this existential angst outta me.
Cornflake — so pleased you and D are adopting this Lab. I hope he brings more joy into your household.

This morning's wordle was a lucky 3 after two days of 5 and 6.
I'm taking a quick trip to Indianapolis (Carmel) for a visit with my (now) English nephew, Peter. I haven't seen him is 7-8 years. Actually, I haven't seen any of my family since the 80 hour weeks started at the post office. It will be nice to see them. They, in turn, will probably be shocked at how much a 68 year old me has aged.

Howard, I pay a lot of medical stuff on the portal using a debit/credit card. I can't see how paying medical bills that way is different than using it other places.
And, you are here because you bring me pleasure.

Eric and I were supposed to practice today, but COVID caught up with him again. So practiced delayed to next Sunday. I'm focused on getting "Moondance" ready to add to our setlist and maybe record.
Watched the Packers play their last preseason game yesterday. It's impossible to tell anything from a preseason game since almost all the starters didn't play. I'm skeptical they will even win the division this year. But they've proven me wrong before.

Today will primarily be a day of rest after yesterday's activity. We, The Cedar River Whalers and special guest Todd (Crash) Frank, provided almost 3 1/2 hrs of non stop music yesterday for Vinton's annual Boom Town celebration. Lot of people, lots of fun, we were under a hugh awning that had chairs, provided by the city, for people to sit and listen. There were 85 craft vendors up and down main Street, along with other activities.
We all were invited to Phil's place when we finished, to relax and enjoy some wonderful food in air conditioned comfort.
I'll probably drive out to the farms this afternoon to check (marvel at) the corn. I'm thinking at least 225 bu per acre this year.

I did just that a moment ago. Easy-peasy. And... it satisfied my out-of-pocket deductible for the rest of 2024.
Thank you, Rob. That's kind of you to write.

Today we are hosting Katie’s baby shower, at a state Park in Estacada. We have food for about 35. It starts at two, and we will be there prepping from noon on. I think we have it under control, but will be happy when all is said and done.

Morning!
I asked Zach (my renter) if the wheat on the farm hit 100 bu/a. He said, no, only 99. The wheat fields in this part of the country were the lushest and prettiest I have ever seen. One more decent rain, and the soybeans and corn will be pretty darn good as well. And it sounds like there will be storms tonight and tomorrow.
We are under an official heat advisory. For North Dakotans, that means the temp might get over 90 before the clouds roll in. A cool front is coming, triggering thunder storms when it collides with all this warm, moist air. By Tuesday, we are back to mid-70s.

Hey, Ken, can you get me plans for those bat boxes or a source where one might buy them. I need bats and those look like great boxes. I didn’t know they would work on poles like that. Years ago, I taught kids at a summer camp to make them and they were put up in trees.

Why not pay with a credit card? It’s easy, more secure than sending a check, and if anything were to go wonky, you are protected. We have viirtually everything on auto pay with a couple cards. We pay all our cards off every month so there is no interest charge. In forty or so years of using cards we have had like three times the cards were compromised. Each time the cardholder quickly reversed charges and issued new cards. Problem with debit cards is if there is a problem, 1, the bad guys may have access to your money, and 2, the banks will want to investigate what went wrong and that may take some time. And if it’s your fault, you are SOL. So…credit cards yes, debit cards no. Mike
