My old Black + Decker coffee maker had reached the point where I couldn't keep it clean so I started looking for a new one. The NY Times has a feature called The Wirecutter that compares various consumer products. Their recommendation for best coffee maker was something that cost several hundred bucks. No thanks. They also had a recommendation for best cheap coffee maker. More my style. It's the Ninja CE200, which is about $80 on Amazon. One of its advantages, said The Wirecutter, is that it's about the only product they tested that got the water hot enough to release all the flavors in the coffee.
This morning I tried it out. I ground some Peet's dark roast. I used distilled water to see if it made a difference. I actually measured the amounts of coffee and water I was using. The result was noticeably better than what I'm used to.
I'm not usually all that fussy about coffee but this morning's test convinced me that I need to be at least a little fussy.

I’m very satisfied with my Kcups. Usually Family Style. 2 cups each morning.

I've had my Ninja for 2 years. I based the pick on CR's recommendation. I like the separate water reservoir. Fast, easy, accurate fills, plus it's handy for watering plants, being right there and all. Not a big deal, I just like it. If it went kaput, I would get another one.
Ninja has good product line in a friendly price bracket. I've a got a couple their appliances. They work well and I like them. Plus, I sleep well at night knowing that the only ninjas in the house are on my pay role.

Your old B&D stopped working because you cleaned it too often or because you got really nasty tap water.
Our 5 year old $25 Mr.Coffee crapped out a while back so we got a cheap Black and Decker. We have very good tap water in St. Paul and will only clean the coffee maker if it shows signs of needing a cleaning. Both cheap machines made good coffee.
Our $180 maker with the fancy name didn't last a year and we cleaned it weekly.

We’ve had a bunch of quisinart brand coffeemakers and they all failed within a few years. The one we have now has worked exceptionally well. Not expensive either. Ninja 12 cup

I have a Cuisinart espresso machine that has been going strong for at least six years, possibly seven. It pulls perfect espresso.
Our kitchen also has French press in two sizes, and Melita cone filters for drip coffee. That about covers our brewing needs. I love the java jav and it loves me.

I may have to give it a try. For years we used a Bunn and liked it until for some reason we didn't anymore. Then we settled on a Mr Coffee because, while traveling to art fairs that's what we took with us for the hotel rooms. We realized that it wasn't an appreciable difference, so why fuss?
But now the Mr Coffee regularly overflows the basket and our coffee has grounds in it. I'll look into the Ninja. If I can find one. I thought the whole thing about being Ninja was that you were really, really hard to find if you're a ninja.

Glad you posted this, Flake. It reminded me it’s time to clean my Mochamaster. Thx. Mike I love my Moccamaster, which I bought on your recommendation. Partially because it's the coolest-looking appliance I own, but also because it makes great coffee.

I just put a pinch of French roast in my cheek each morning and I am off to meet the day.

Do you grind it coarse or extra fine?

Why do you guys drink that nasty stuff? It accentuates the health benefits of bacon. (put the two together and they equal 3 heads of broccoli.)

Why do you guys drink that nasty stuff? Simple. 1 while coffee is an acquired taste, once you aquuire the taste for it, it tastes good. 2, caffeine is addictive, I need my morning jolt. Mike

Why do you guys drink that nasty stuff? I gave it up maybe 8 years ago. Never looked back. But I do make a pot of Earl Grey tea every morning and sip it all day long. - much easier on my innerds.
