Brutal 4.5 hour ride out of the bush in a vehicle overstuffed with Maasai friends, now at Songwe airport in Mbeya awaiting boarding for Dar es Salaam. Then a taxi to the port for the fast ferry to Zanzibar. Looking forward to it, always wanted to see.
Y'all have a great day.

Good morning.
Safe travels, Evan. I hope Zanzibar fulfills your expectations.
Easy day planned. Dentist this afternoon and then I may attend a happy hour gig some friends are playing. Preparing breakfast now.
Have a pleasant last Friday of summer.

Good morning, everyone. It'll be a very pleasant day here. I'll deal with odds and ends. I need to meet with a friend who makes beautiful fused glass creations to plan an exhibit of his work. Also need to prepare an application for a fence permit that should wrap up the problem I've had with the city about a fence and a wall that cross an easement. In the end I'm not being required to change anything but I have to file a permit application to memorialize how all this was resolved.
Enjoy your day.

My daycare provider/babysitter/second mom used to collect stamps. She gave me one from Zanzibar.

Breakfast with coffee completed at the hotel.
Had a great class reunion yesterday, really glad I attended. 48 people in my graduating class, we've lost 9. About 30 made it to the reunion.
Heading back to Iowa in about 15 minutes.

My HS class has never had a reunion. Not one. Everyone graduated, headed for the city limits sign, and never looked back. Not sure why that is. Oh, I understand booking down Tobacco Rd and heading out of town, but the never having a reunion part is a bit strange. It’s been 56 years, so unless there is one hell of a bash scheduled for the 60th, I feel it’s safe to assume a reunion ain’t gonna happen. It wasn’t like we didn’t like each other. We did. The class motto seems to have been kiss my dust-I’m gone. Don’t look back, huh?

Good morning.
60F-80F sunny.
Shop time with Tyler but first one more trip to Cub for food supplies for Zaria. She is going to eat like a teenage Queen here all next week. 90% is microwave or oven so not much in the way of pots and pans to wash.
Still figuring out what I need to take with us to Kauai. Just realized my prescription sunglasses are out in the truck and need to remember to bring them in. One more day of prep and we get up very early Sunday morning to catch our flight. We could have someone drop us off and pick us up but decided to use the parking garage again. They are 5 min. away from the airport, will shuttle us to and from on call and are $90 cheaper than airport parking.

Evan, I went to Zanzibar a long time ago. My compass was more useful than a map in Stonetown at that time. Quite a maze of alleys. The night market was good for nibbles back then. Have a good time!

Still figuring out what I need to take with us to Kauai. Sunscreen, sun hat, walking shorts, tennis shoes, comfortable sandals, (I really like olukai flip flops, spendy but worth it, you can also find decent flip flops at Costco Lihue) swimwear, a light sweatshirt just in case, light raincoat, a couple of rolls of quarters for doing laundry, and a fat wallet because everything is expensive there. Have fun. Mike On edit: take sun protection seriously. We try to stay out of the sun from 10:30-2:00.More than one trip has been ruined by sunburn.

I should have looked around sooner for familiar names, but if you haven't checked it, here's one possible guide site: www.kauaimusicscene.com/Hard to say who to look for without knowing where on the island you're staying, but I recognize a couple of names as being pretty pretty traditional: Doug and Sandy McMaster and Na Pali (includes Carlos Andrade and Pat Cockett).

Rooney Report 9/20/24 excerpted
Candidate Kamala Harris in her forum with Oprah Winfrey mentioned once again that she’s a gun owner and that, “If somebody breaks into my house they’re gonna get shot.” She followed up with, “I probably shouldn’t have said that.”
That was a chuckle ;-)

Pat Landeza is another name to notice if you stumble across it. He taught slack key at Swannanoa and was a wonderful player, teacher and a real good guy.

Referring clients to another firm has spurred many inquiries. Oh well.
On to some little adventure: a friend and I have reserved a boat at Coyote Rock Marina on the Siletz River for Monday. I am imagining catching a couple nice Chinook salmon and getting our limits (12 per person) of Dungeness crab.
I am thinking positive, so I will bring my propane crab cooker, salt, and a 6 gallon pot to deal with the crab, and my cooler and fillet knife to deal with the salmon.

A good day. A client and his wife picked up a repair and gave me a nice tip. Then they saw Pat’s GMC cargo van in the driveway which we Are trying to sell and want to buy it. No haggling over price so it’ll probably be gone tomorrow.
Now if the Cornhuskers win it’ll be a perfect day.
