When you're up at 3:20 am, it's easy to get lost in youtube, but I happened upon the last episode of "Newhart." A choice piece of SITCOM history. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdQ7DGL1nw0

Okay, I'll post on the undaily. Good morning, folks.
Today I have to attend a church vestry retreat. I don't expect it to be interesting. Otherwise we'll have a record high temperature, about eighteen degrees above normal. Obla di, obla da.
Enjoy your day.

Up at 5:30 so we can do our walk before the neighborhood coffee at 7:30. It will be stinking hot again. Will have to go grocery shopping because we just returned from out of town yesterday afternoon.
Had a very nice few days on Coronado Island. No car. We walked everywhere except Lyft from the airport and back. Had some good food, enjoyed the San Diego weather. Looked at some interesting architecture, indulged in Cheez-Its and wine coolers on our patio next to a stream. And went to a great free jazz piano concert by local guy Adam Wolff. A music school dropout who had a career as an air conditioning mechanic and engineer and returned to music after retirement. Of course I contributed to the tip jar.
A two hour delay on our return flight, but at least we weren't among the poor slobs who sat on the tarmac for an hour waiting to get to the gate. Some sort of air traffic control issue. I wonder if it had anything to do with Kamala Harris landing in Tucson around the time our flight was scheduled. Got home, unloaded, unpacked, got the house running, etc. Didn't get back our lost 2 hours.
Tucson should be much cooler by this time in September. I think I can survive after that short break, but am beginning to wonder.

Good morning. Getting ready to head out to do some volunteer work for the Harris campaign. After that it's an afternoon workout and an evening bike ride. Clean up and recovery efforts continue along the coast. I'm staying out of the way and will go down to check it out after things settle down.
Have a great day.

Well the open mic was interesting last evening, there were 4 participants. It was scheduled to run from 6 to 9 and we thought about pulling the plug at 8:00, but the wine bar was open and there were quite few people there. Phil and I decided we'd join forces and fill in the last hour.
We finished up at 9:00 and were tearing down the sound system as people were leaving the wine bar. I'm not sure what Dan had put in the wine, but as people were walking past us on their was out, they started dropping $20.00 bills. We didn't have a tip jar so it was quite unexpected.
Tonight Phil and I will be playing at the "Back Ally Evening of The Arts", in Vinton.

Morning!
Bombshell trade between the Wolves and the Knicks! Heck of a surprise. Pundits are calling it a rare Win/Win.
I expect everyone here has their own opinion on the trade, so I won't belabor with mine, other than I hope it turns out well for the Wolves (and I think it will) and I hope it turns out well for KAT (and I think it will).

Yay! Internet is back on after yesterday, when, reportedly, a passing train somehow took out the cable. Not sure how that could happen, but all of Joseph was down. This morning we are off to a farmers market, then to the Alpenfest show. Polka music, Alpenfest horns, dancers, brats and beer.

Heading out in a little while to the Wilton Candy Kitchen. Decided that my wife needed a road trip that involved dessert after dealing with her family for so long in attempting to get her mother's house sold. I've been there a couple of times, she hasn't gotten to go. (The advantages of being a traveling clock repairman)

She seems to be a wonderful person and she deserves a treat. A vacation, really, to which you may or may not be invited to. But definitely a trip to the candy kitchen would be good. By the way, I prefer to think of you as an itinerant clock repairman, amongst other things.

For anyone without bigger plans, TCM is showing 8 1/2 tonight. As often as I've seen it, Nino Rota's music always grabs me, and the final sequence is heartbreaking. I'm sure I've posted some version of this before, but it never gets old.

The fnal scene in a Fellini film that gets me every time is Giulietta Masina in "The Nights of Cabiria."
Every time.

Especially striking when put next to the 8 1/2 finale. Though it depends as much on that long take of Masina's expression as on anything else--and I wonder how it would work without Rota's music.

It's all the elements working together, for me.

"I hope the vestry is larger than I picture it to be, or your retreat might be pretty uncomfortable."
John B, I suspect you're thinking of the vestry as a place. In the Episcopal world it's essentially the board of directors. There are about twenty people on ours. Ours is a large church and it operates a large and successful private school. There's a lot to manage. Many aspects of management are somewhat less than fascinating but it's a task that needs doing and the people are pleasant.
The bishop of Kenya will be visiting our church the day that Diane and I fly off to Oregon. The vestry will meet with him. I'm sorry I'll miss it.

Fellini is lost on me. I will need to take another run at it sometime.
While babysitting grandson last Wednesday I remember holding him to my chest. He turned his head and kept coughing in my face. Gee, I wish I had had my flu and other virus shots. Today I am coughing and my throat is sore.
It did not stop me from assisting my son in bottling his home brew of hefeweizen. We bottled about 4 gallons. That done, plus a trip to the dog park and a BLT sandwich for lunch are my achievements for the day.

I seem to be coming down with the same ick as Her Grace has had all week. It begins with a sore throat...

My sister-in-law and her family lived in Wilton for many years. I had no idea there was anything to do in Wilton.
