What is a good mic to use when recording what's going on in a room? Singing, instruments, audience and ambience is what I'm after. Any suggestions?

Yes, that would be important to know. Probably $100 and down. I saw a bunch of mics at around $49 on Musicians Friend, but I can't tell much from the pictures.

I do not know your setup, or if you have the capability for phantom power. So if you do not have phantom power capability, then the Sure SM57 or 58 are standards. If you do have phantom power capabilities, then AT2020MXL 990 - 991are a couple of brands that are not bad sounding. Take Care, Gene

A good omni pattern mic is what you need to get everything in the room. The pick-up pattern is 360 degrees.
