dunno if this is common knowledge or not, but here goes. on a recent recording i dropped, stood on, and broke my pop guard. after much hair tearing, i stretched a pair of tights (panty hose to americans) over a coat hanger. this worked just as well if not better than a money bought pop guard. just thought if someone else is in a similar position, this nugget of wisdom might help. or maybe, as i said, it's already common knowledge.......

I used that trick for a couple of years worth of recording before finally going with a real pop-guard--I finally decided it was worth $20 to have more secure clamping and the flexibility of the gooseneck, but the coat-hanger deal served me very well during its time in service.

I did the same thing for a couple weeks, until I got to the store to buy one. I also learned after the first couple days that it works a lot better if you take your wife out of the pantyhose before sticking a hanger in them & mounting to a mic stand:
1.) No more screaming "I said, GET ME OUT OF HERE!"
2.) No more muffled sound.
3.) No more singing into her butt.
