Wow, prices have indeed gone up, unless that's for the gloss finish.

Wow, prices have indeed gone up, unless that's for the gloss finish. The guitar alone is now $1K and with electronics is $1.2k. I am not sure that is what the Madison prices are, but it would be my guess.

Enough about the Escargots!!! Give 'em all a slug logo on the headstock. Well, actually they are fun to play, at least for a little while. I defy anyone to have a problem playing my Taylor 312CE, whatever your hand problems are. But what do I know, I don't play it much myself, I go to the keyboard to make my version of music. Playing that sweet Barbarossa I bought sorta from Bill 2 years ago IS a challenge on my arthritic hands, so I keep it in open D tuning.

I just checked their website. As of 3/7 they had one Cargo in their inventory. I emailed them for their price..they only listed the list price (over $1200 and it didn't say it had the electronics). They should deal some on the price. (75% to 80%?) If that seems possible and/or you just want to check them out, then a trip would seem to be in order. It's a very nice store with a lot of great high end instruments. You won't want for things to drool over.

Just got a message from the music store. I could get a Cargo for $800 with electronics being $200 more. I guess before the price goes too much higher I may take a run to Madison to try one out. They have a couple of the $800 ones in stock.

Be aware that some retailers will sell existing stock at the original price (including discount), and others may opt to raise prices on current stock to reflect their replacement cost for new inventory...

Bill nailed it on the new prices - $999 for a regular Cargo with Road Tough finish, and $1099 for one with a Baggs pickup. Dealers aren't making even a penny more than they did when the prices were $799, and are making a bit less than when they were $899 for one with a p/u. Most dealers have 2009 stock by now, so if you are paying $799 for a Cargo, it's from 2008, and a good deal.
We just had the last of the $799 Cargos at the Podium. Actually several that were ordered before the increase, and all were spoken for. Our new Cargos are priced accordingly.
Larry - I'm not sure about the practices of other dealers, but at the Podium we never back adjust pricing like that. It's just plain unethical. You compensate for the replacement cost with the updated pricing on the new inventory. Simple as that.
Too bad they went up in price - $799 was a great deal - but according to the CA folks, it takes as long - even a bit longer - to make a Cargo as any of the full sized guitars, and the cost of materials between the body sizes is really negligible.

I always wondered why they were so cheap, compared to the larger models. Loss leader to get the buzz going? See how it runs, then raise it if it goes well, or abandon the line if not? It's just business, normal business. Be interesting to see if it makes a dent in the popularity - a thousand dollars could be a significant mental barrier.
On the other hand, they're still way cheaper than a Blackbird.
Glad I got mine when I did. $1,000 Canuckistani for the Charcoal RT with the pickup, taxes in. Happy, happy, happy - and I can tell my wife that not only do I love and am super pleased I could buy it, but it's even better now that price has gone up.
