Well. Not much rain really. But the trees are doing the "twist and shout!" And more ominously the lights are blinking...

Well.... just heard an announcement that our electrical "sub-station" will be de-energized within a half an hour... from here on in it's guitars and books by candle light.
Will send smoke signals if help is desperately needed.....

Best wishes to you and yours, sir.

Power is up and down and therefore DSL is up and down it's maddening. The winds are subsiding some but still howling. Think I'll crash and see what up in the morning. Good luck to those north of here. It won't be pretty but it should be over tomorrow.

Howard and I traded texts over the weekend. He said while his neighbors were stocking up on food, he was headed for the liquor store.

Heard from Brian Wolfe of Acousticmusic.org in Guilford, CT. He grabbed his cat and a few guitars as storm waters were surrounding his beach house two hours before the storm surge. He is sitting in his car in a parking lot waiting and wondering what to o.

Oh dear matt.
Everyone be safe. The storm claimed its first fatality in Toronto tonight. A sign blew down in a gust and hit a woman on the head. Instantly died.

Still blowing like stink here north of DC, and raining. But we haven't lost power, which is surprising, we seem to lose power when the wind goes above about 10 mph, thank you Pepco.
Over the weekend, we were in Rehoboth Beach DE for an Irish Dance weekend. We stayed at the Atlantic Sands hotel, right on the beach. A number of news crews showed up and used the hotel as their HQ. The town always has a big festival for Halloween they call the Sea Witch festival, which is a big thing locally. It was odd, the streets were packed with families having fun, kids and dogs in costume, booths selling stuff, etc. People were riding horses on the beach, some guy was kite surfing. Then the weather people saying on TV that no one was taking the storm seriously, that no one was boarding up, etc. It was like those disaster movies where all the happy vacationers are having fun while one guy is running around screaming "YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!" ;D
Well, by Sunday, they had boarded up the lower floor and most guests were gone. Good thing, it now appears that Rehoboth is having some serious flooding, at least close to the beach.
Once the weekend was over and the hardwood floor we install for it taken up and loaded on a truck, we all ran for high ground. No problem getting home, but we were concerned that they would close the Bay Bridge due to high wind before we got there.
Govt closed again tomorrow, so its good I'm stocked up with emergency supplies: beer, wine, a guitar, banjo, a charged Kindle.

For what it's worth, CNN is going to have Sebastian Junger (author of "The Perfect Storm") on... right now. 10:50 Central time.

I had seen earlier that the Letterman show was gonna go on as scheduled, so once I got home from work tonight after 10, I dialed it in (rare) and found it fascinating. Dave had Paul Shaffer and his drummer, and maybe a bass player -- but no audience, no graphics (the Top 10 list was presented with cue cards as the titles and punch lines -- they even showed the young staffer holding them up in front of the camera) -- BUT -- by God, Denzel Washington showed up and talked with great insight about his new film, "Flight," which I cannot wait to see.
I dunno if "Letterman" is able to be seen post-show via streaming, but I would recommend this show wholeheartedly, if nothing else for the outside-the-box nature of how they did it.
Oh, and Biff does a standup outside where he says the storm is wimpy compared with what he grew up knowing in N.C.
