Wow, dude, that is some fine playing right there! Lotsa technique in the first one, but it serves the rollicking rhythm nicely, I think, and it's just a really fun ride. The DADGAD piece is beautiful, has gorgeous suspensions and lots of breathing space, is not junked up at all, and there is even a MELODY! God be praised! Immaculate recordings, too. So, tell us about your guitar, your process, and most important, about YOU -- people and their lives are really the heart of this forum.

Thank you, mr Hammond! A lot of questions there... The guitar is a Gibson Gospel, a somewhat cheaper model that I bought second hand in the 1990's. About the process, the recording process that is? It's recorded with an AKG 414 and a Neumann tlm103 through an allen &heath mixing board into cubase. I'm a guitar player from Belgium, i'm mostly doing pop music, but i have been writing and playing this kind of music for a long time. I just never found the time to really do something with it. So these are the first recordings, more will follow.

Thanks for all the info and I sure do look forward to hearing more of your music, as it is quite wonderful. Makes me feel like a hack, in fack ...

Welcome. Very nice pieces.
At first I typed, "Very nice pieces. Welcome." But that sounds too much like you're welcome if you bring nice music. There are enough hacks like me on here that we can't limit it like that. It's all about the people.

Thank you all. I'm not sure what a hack is, and you'll have to supply the beer yourself. I will drink a nice belgian brew on your health though.

OK, I will have a nice Wisconsin brew and you can have your trappist ale. A hack is someone who hacks away at guitar, or golf, or whatever, and is not very accomplished.

I don't hear the connection of Sangatte to Dr. John & 'Fess though.

OK I found a way.
I hear the connection quite clearly. I live near New Orleans and have seen the good Doctor a number of times though I never did see Fess. John Mooney did some Fess-inspired guitar work that's worth the ride...

I love the finger slides that Herman uses to mimic the backhand slide a piano player might make.

Very nice work, Herman and welcome to the Sound hole. Don't mind these other guys. They're always looking for free beer.

Thanks for all the kind words!
Theevan: I'm not an expert on New Orleans music at all, but I was lucky enough to have spent a few days there and to have seen Dr John perform in Belgium twice. New Orleans is a wonderful city and Dr John is a wonderful musician!

Wow! Nice.
Welcome to the Soundhole. The Cafe is the forum where most of us annoy each other, offer pithy comments on the state of the world, and ask the universal question, why is the banjo?
