The big problem with Amazing Grace is that people tend to slow it down and drag it out, which you don't want on a sing along. Kind of the like slogging through Rrrocka Vaages.

Seems like everyone's done poor Irene. You always have to drag poor Irene's name through the mud, don't you? Well, you did not feel that way when it was Prom time, did you?

You might want to try something that someone born in say, the last half century might have a chance of knowing.
Just sayin'......

Peter, if you'd seen last year's audience you'd know why it's old tunes being suggested.
And besides, this is small-town Iowa--the last half of the previous century is still in use there. (I know because I recognized some of the parts we sent them after we were finally finished with them up here. Still a lot of wear left in them, a shame to just toss 'em out.)

See? And with full harmony on the choruses? You just can't beat it. There won't be a dry eye in the crowd. I was standing about 20 feet from Tom Paxton and Joel Mabus as they finished their set with that. The audience was going all full-throated on 'em by the last time 'round. And that was a crowd (gathered for the art fair) that didn't expect to stumble upon a folk music performance that day.
