So I am new to this forum and thought I should tell a bit about myself and my lifelong love/struggle with the 6 string. First, I am retired from 37 years of higher education as instructor and administrator. I am now getting the opportunity to live out an early dream. I am playing with a bluegrass band and will be earning tens of dollars while pursuing obscurity. That said…it is a blast!
I play a D-18 Martin from the early 70’s. The wood has aged well but carries old scars from my days of smoking…cigarettes as well as an unfortunate lapse of judgement when my guitar was left in a cold car and then warmed up too quickly. The finish took a beating but it did not impact the tone. I look at Willy Nelson’s “Trigger” and tell myself the D-18 is not all that bad. I do have other guitars (mostly electric). When my wife ask how many I have, I simply tell her, “not enough”.
Looking forward to Idiot Jam 2017 and will not have far to travel as I live in Vinton, IA. Looking forward to meeting those that attend this year’s event.
Phil

Welcome aboard, Phil. Glad you're joining in. And do post a video of your new band when it becomes available.

I do have other guitars (mostly electric). When my wife ask how many I have, I simply tell her, “not enough”. Welcome aboard. I am among a handful of miscreants here who play electric almost exclusively. My presence here is tolerated anyway! Do tell. What sorts of electrics do you have, Phil, and what do you play 'em through??

Hey Phil. Glad to have you with us.
Damn, I knew there was something I intended to do in Vinton while I was there over the weekend. It's right there on my calendar; "Meet Phil". I did, however, enjoy the Benton County Fair, the demolition derby on Saturday night, and the stock car races on Sunday night. I also managed to squeeze in a concert at The Farmers Mercantile in Garrison on Sunday afternoon. I'm looking forward to meeting you when I come back for Ijam.
I must admit to being somewhat jealous of the fact that you are preparing to earn 10s of dollars playing bluegrass. I didn't realize the union had negotiated a major pay increase.

Wow. We should make him drive around the block several times to rack up some mileage.

Nice that we have new blood.
I'm Doug 6 ft 10" and look kind of like that guy on the cover of the romance novels. You won't be able to miss me at IJ.

Phil, do you have a doctorate, perchance? If so, can we call you Dr. Phil? In any event, welcome. There are many bozos on this bus, but always room for a Vintonian. (Vintonite?)

Oh, I'm so sorry. Somebody should have told you. We reached our quota of Phils some time back. Should you at some point decide to have your name legally changed, we will consider your next application. Otherwise, Shove off, buster.

I am among a handful of miscreants here who play electric almost exclusively. My presence here is tolerated anyway! Paul is walking a thin line here. He apparently forgot the "don't ask don't tell" policy on electric guitars. My name is David, and yes, I know that my screen name is imaginative. After we get to know each other better, you can call me "Dave." Welcome Phil.
