A very credible explanation. Trump should have followed Kelly's advice and not made the call at all. Whatever he might have said was almost bound to be taken in a bad way by a highly partisan Democratic member of Congress - and who knew she would be listening in. But as I posted earlier, Trump carries such a big basket of insensitivities that the unflattering interpretation fits right in with what a lot of people think about him. That the same kind of assuming-the-worst takes place on the other side of the aisle as well is not exactly headline news.

Exactly what in that article makes you think McCain was talking about Trump and not the anti-conservatives that are keeping Trump from doing what he was elected to do? Reading the same article I see his comments as against the people who don't think the U.S. should continue to lead the world but should back off and let the chis fall where they may. McCain isn't for that. He still thinks, as do I, that the U.S. has a responsibility to try to bring a peaceful order to the world. Your mileage will of course vary but I think that anyone reading that article without a left-wing bias would take McCain's remarks differently than the author took them.

Bruce, you did notice the venue in which Bacevich's piece appeared, didn't you? Unless The American Conservative is a front organization and Bacevich not the Catholic conservative he claims to be, that piece represents one line of conservative thinking. And it's hard not to see Trump (America First, Make America Great Again) as the unnamed advocate of the "half-baked, spurious nationalism" in McCain's speech. Who else is talking that kind of talk?

Bruce, I don't think my response to you could be much more succinct than Russell's. I had been half-heartedly attempting to write something similar but I'm happy to be spared the bother.

That's probably why they're taking over the ocean area around you and as I recall they don't like Japan much. Brush up on your Mandarin.

Just went back to the first post on page 1, to refresh my memory. Now on page 10, we know the answer to "Trump lies. Why" is he didn't. As usual, the original crime never happened. Fake news blown up to keep the DNC circus going.

The disappointment is with the president.
The congresswoman? Yes, she had no business politicizing a private message of condolence. Back in the days of party lines we would have known her rightly for what she is, a fucking gossip, and ignored her. Now she is in the House of Representative, but she is still a fucking gossip and should be ignored.
The press corp? Yes, at times they can be like a pack of jackals fighting over the mere scent of meat. We know that. A president should know that. Act like a president. Not a jackal. Or a jackass.
The problem is with Trump. He is... he is.. he... Words fail me. He... he is like this pathetic little creature I saw on Marlin Perkins' Wild Kingdom awhile back, a Tasmanian Shitweasel. The Tasmanian Shitweasel isn't a true weasel, it is a small, insecure marsupial that has no teeth and really, really small paws. So, when it feels threatened, which is ridiculously often, it resorts to screaming loudly, puffing its head up to three times its normal size, and then shitting all over itself. And then flinging that shit in all directions, hoping for complete distraction.

Just goes to further validate the old political heuristic:
How do you know a Democrat/media/leftist/etc. is lying?
Their damn lips are moving.

Sometimes no one ends up looking particularly good. Sometimes seems to happen quite lately. Kelly came out looking good...but being caught up in this business was the last thing that poor guy wanted or deserved.

That's probably why they're taking over the ocean area around you and as I recall they don't like Japan much. Brush up on your Mandarin. Yeah, right..., but nobody's taking over anything around Japan. Please point that out if I've missed something. As former navy, maybe you can understand this? nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/why-china-fears-japans-super-stealth-soryu-class-submarines-20547And after a token delivery of two planes, I think from somewhere in Texas, Japan is now building it's own fleet of F-35s (again Mitsubishi Heavy).

I will be, voluntarily, taking a 30 day suspension from this forum. Anyone who has trouble seeing that this thread began in a spirit of incivility and downright trollery is welcome to applaud. "Transparently lying about what his predecessors have done regarding fallen soldiers.
This is not a partisan issue. Every Democrat, Republican and Martian knows that both Obama and Bush did what Trump claims they didn't do.
When caught lying, his defense is to what he supposedly "heard." Where does one go to "hear" such nonsense?
Why lie about this, of all things?
What is the point?
Is he crazy? Is he a compulsive liar? Is he, as some like to assert, just "shaking things up?"
Is it because he is impulsively defensive about the fact that more than a week went by since four soldiers died in Niger and he has not contacted the families or made any public statement? (Busy golfing and Tweeting, I guess.)
This is not normal behavior."
Ten pages and five days later, what Trump did is still not normal. In my opinion, normalizing what he did is dangerous. Since asking it, I have attempted to engage with posters with various positions, while, sometimes, tenaciously disagreeing with them. It has been suggested that his lying means nothing to his supporters, his is an interesting case to make, although I have struggled to understand how that can be. When Bill Clinton wagged his finger and said he did not have sexual relations with that woman, I was pissed off as a Democrat and as an American- and this was before it was actually proven that he was lying. Some continue to insist on page 10 here that Trump didn’t lie. (He did.) I’m pretty sure you can read my contributions to these ten pages without me calling anybody names, though I have been called a lying liberal POS, uncivil and, now, a troll. We are now on the tenth page of a thread and the fifth day of a national distraction, that is of the President’s own making and sustaining (lending support to the stated belief by some that the reason he lies is to distract and piss of liberals). Some posters have expressed their disgust that it is still being talked about. Don’t worry. By Monday Trump will have created a new distraction, the liberals will continue to react with WTF? and conservatives will cheer the divisiveness and chaos. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Unless Robert Mueller intervenes, we have another three and a half years of this. Good times, right? I need to pace myself. I think I’ll take at least 30 days off, too.

Thing is, man, it's all fake news. Everything you believe was penned by the DNC then repeated by the left-wing media and you bought it.
Mueller's got nothing on Trump or the Republicans. Everything he looks into has Hillary's fingerprints all over it. If he had anything, or anyone else had anything something would have been done by now. The only guy who told a truth was Comey when he said "The people who are talking don't know and the people who know aren't talking". The people who know aren't talking because it all points to Hillary and talking about Hillary is a form of suicide in Washington. Congress called in the company that created the supposed Trump dossier and they all took the 5th. It's fake news.
