Trump's DOE is busy walking back the banning of incandescent lights. He can because Conngress never passed a law to do it in the first place. So typical.
Now if he can just kill those damn gas can spouts.
(I'm sure he'll get there, too.)

The Salvation of the Incandescent Light would make a good title for a novel.

Better name for a band. No one would know what the hell you were talking about.
I don’t mind LEDs. Light is not so glaring now. What drives me crazy is that they don’t seem to last any longer, despite claims they would.

We have gone all LED. Have no plans to buy another incandescent bulb even if Trump returns them to the stores.

We've tried to work with LEDs and other crap, but being rather handy with electrical work with a wife who loves to have me do that, I've spent a fair amount of time rewiring using dimmers designed for those kinds of bulbs.
To make the story short, those switches aren't worth shit. An incandescent switch is butt simple with a big old resistor rated for 600 W+ at least. Technology that's been around since Edison.
All the other switches are rated for like 200 W with the dimmer being some kind of pulsewidth modulater that has a dial under the plate. Lasts approximately 3 months and then explodes loudly internally and needs to be replaced when the piss in your pants dries.
Never again. And the odd thing is that you can't find the normal switches in Home Depot or Lowes. I've replaced mine by contacting the manufacturer for warranty replacements which are easy to get (they seem to be readily aware of the problem).
That's your handy tech tip for your home.

Not all incandescents were banned in the US--what was regulated was lumens/watts ratios, which affected, say, conventional 100-watt bulbs. But three-way bulbs of the kind I use in my reading lamps were exempt, and I still find four-packs of 100- and 75-watt bulbs in dollar stores. BTW, programs regulating or promoting energy-efficient lighting is common across most of the world.
I still like incandescents, partly for my reading lamps and partly--because of the waste heat--as warming devices for the cats. (A 100-watter in a clamp-on work light turns a garage loft into a kitty motel in cold weather.)

I think Doug said he'd still use an incandescent in his well, to keep it from freezing up. Otherwise, even he'd left them behind.

The modern dimmers are supposed to be universal, including incandescents. Incandescents and the circuitry that solely supports them are the cheapest and prettiest (according to my wife) available. The fancy dimmers are something like $25 apiece. Incandescents only are half that. I'll never use anything but incandescents again. Unless it's in the shop portion of the basement which gets good, old fluorescent tubes.

I went and jumped off a bridge last night I don’t know why, someone just told me to Didn’t even really put up much of a fight Now there’s seaweed between my toes
Now that I think about it It was a pretty good dive Pretty good form - not much splash Now that I think about it It was a pretty short ride Sunk like a cannonball I think I gained some weight
I jumped off a bridge Cause someone told me to Just goes to show Don’t let anyone tell you what To think or say or do Just goes to show Don’t let anyone tell you what To think or say or do
There were tires and wires And bicycle frames Not many trout - fish don’t live down there I got to thinking I must be insane I shouldn’t have listened This isn’t as fun as it sounds
CHORUS
And so I think that My lesson’s been learned Gotta be your own man - Be just like james dean Chalk it up to an experience earned What an adventure - I think I broke my neck

We have never given up our whale oil lamps. There are still enough whales left to keep our lamps burning for a few more years.

LEDs are a god-send in my work. Heat is death to museum artifacts, and before LEDs lighting an artifact case took a lot of time and expense. Now we put spotlights in and forget about it.
