Just watched this tonight. Wow, what a great documentary. One of those times when you go, sheesh, I knew she had a lot of big hits, but man, she had a lot of big hits, when they just keep coming and coming throughout the film. Also the time, the environment, and how she survived as a woman in the rock business.
Two biggest surprises, was when they showed her singing in the Pirates of Penzance, and the album of traditional Mexican tunes. Her voice in pirates was pure opera. My god, what an instrument she had - she could have been a coloratura. And the Mexican album; I had no idea that part of her background was Mexican, and that the album was the best selling non-English album in American musical history.
Well worth the watch.

I agree, Rick. It was a great show. I've been a Ronstadt fan since her Stone Ponies days. What a voice.
Years ago my brother-in-law, who lived in Chicago, and I made a pact that if she ever got anywhere close we'd go see her. One Sunday morning I saw a big ad in the newspaper announcing she was coming to the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee. I called and got two tickets.
What I hadn't realized was that Ronstadt was touring in support of "Canciones de Mi Padre". I had the album, of course, and loved it. But it hasn't occurred to me that she would tour based on that album.
My brother-in-law arrived at the theater. 8th row and on the aisle. As the place filled up we realized we were the only non-Hispanic people there. By showtime it was standing room only.
That may have been the best concert I've ever attended and not one word of English was spoken the entire night. I didn't understand anything but it didn't matter. Ronstadt's voice and her personality were all that was needed. She toured with the same mariachi band she had recorded with. The band was fabulous, her voice was more than fabulous, and it was a wonderful evening that I'll never forget.

They were apparently the best of the best.

I saw a Linda several times back in the day. She was beyond fabulous, her band was always the best of the best, and I love the stuff with the Nelson Riddle (oops) orchestra.

It's a CNN film, premiered there on New Year's Day. They'd been promoting it relentlessly for weeks, and I think it's probably still in the schedule, since I'm still seeing promos.

Trust me. I won't be watching the Patriots. You should have it for posterity, though -- it could be Brady's last NFL game (although I doubt that, misself.)

Glad I taped the LR thing. Started watching it 35 minutes after it started televising. Fast forwarded thru commercials (except for the one I went to the bathroom and then got a beer out of the garage). There had to be 45 minutes of commercials in a 2 hr broadcast.
Still pretty good.
