This is truly lovely. Such a voice, great playing, wonderful song. Absolutely wonderful. Isn't that the guitarist who plays with Rosanne Cash?

That’s the first time I’ve seen him and SJ, I think. Didn’t now who he was. Does indeed do a fabulous job.

I read her article and she was the cover in Acoustic Guitar magazine a long time.... early 2000s. A progeny.

He's a tasty player ain't he?
Uses a Fishman Rare Earth pickup. You hear it on the second one.

This is truly lovely. Such a voice, great playing, wonderful song. That is astonishing guitar tone. A little different than anything I've noticed before. Obviously, a lot to do with his touch and chord voicings, but I can't help but think some digital wizardry. Any thoughts? Boy, you put together his guitar part and her voice, it is something special.

A UM87, a fine touch and a nice guitar. Maybe a bit of eq And compression. That’s about all you can do outside of a touch of reverb.

There was a really great technique I was shown a number of years ago, especially for vocals that the track would be duplicated and would eliminate most lower frequencies some mid and increase a tad around 8000 to give that “bite”. The main track would be at one level for the main sound and the “enhanced” vocal would be set to the level of bite that is desired. This gives the presence of the vocals to compliment the main track.
There also are a number of techniques to make the clean pure sound with selective editing of a track when it is not being used.
Good artists, good music and good mix = enjoyment

There also are a number of techniques to make the clean pure sound with selective editing of a track when it is not being used. Good artists, good music and good mix = enjoyment It seems from looking at videos in the past few years, that most engineers do that kind of thing for almost all tracks now. They send the original track to a bus, and from there to a couple of other tracks. One is kept clean, others have various effects and EQ put on them. Then you can more easily mix the dry/wet sounds. I’ve done some of that; it increases the number of tracks exponentially. When you see some of those projects, they have 75+. Tracks in them. Boggles the mind, how you keep track of what’s going on in a mix like that. You also do commonly see the second technique you talked about. People cut out the silent parts of the tracks, so you get spaces all over the place when you’re viewing it in the DAW. Logic actually has a tool to remove silences but it’s a bit dodgy, it’s easy to cut off a note’s attack, or the tail end of someone slowly going quiet.

I have seen her perform 4 times. I got to talk to her for a bit twice. One of her shows just leaves a person amazed at the amount of talent on the stage. She has a new recording out for those who still buy recordings. It is also available as a download. World on the Ground.

Was a bodyguard or her dad there or something?

Last year in Bristol, with Aoife O'Donovan and Sara Watkins, (I'm With Her), they unplugged and left the stage to stand in the middle of the sizeable and unseated audience and sing a few songs without amplification. It was special.
Edit - corrected wonky spelling of ' Aoife'. (Possibly not for the first time)

I talked to her about her newest recording-newest at the time-,her octave mandolin, and the fact my wife has relatives with the same last name. Just pleasant small talk. She was open & friendly. The nice thing about the Old Town School is that, after the concerts, you can often meet and talk to performers. I have met a number of artists that way.
