It was a saddening day but I was heartened to hear a stream of patriotic Republicans condemn this insurrection. Right now I'm listening to a Trump-supporting representative say he'll continue his objection.
As an aside, I haven't watched a TV news broadcast in quite a few years. Today I tuned in and stopped when I found CNN. I was boggled and irritated by the nonstop editorials about what was occurring. I'm not interested in their opinions. I looked for another channel and the first one I found was NBC. At least it doesn't sound like an op-ed page.

Bill, now you know our Duck Band rehearsals last so long to such little effect.

When I've channel surfed for news and compared A to B to C and D. I've found PBS to be the most neutral and watchable. Very watchable. CNN and FOX are both irritating, very irritating (FOX more so, but CNN sucks as well). I have found PBS more balanced and worthwhile than ABC, CBS, and NBC. And they have David Brooks every Friday night. And once you start watching Margarette Hoover, there is no turning away. She is hot and smart, smart and hot!

A friend of ours, Algis Budrys, was the son of a Lithuanian diplomat posted to East Prussia in the early 1930s. As a very young child, AJ saw Hitler in a parade there. People went nuts, falling down and screaming--including a guy shitting himself. That, he wrote*, is when he realized that he was living among werewolves. (His father was soon posted to New York and AJ grew up American, though he remained officially stateless and didn't take a US passport until Lithuania was once again an independent nation.)
* I could swear that he told us this story, but it's also preserved in an interview and perhaps in the introduction to one of his books.

Well, it appears that the interior of the Capitol is now secure, and there is every indication that the electoral confirmation will continue tonight, as it must. They probably don't dare go home.

I posted this excerpt from a 1963 Twilight Zone episode a while back. Didn’t realize how pertinent it would become.
Advice from a shadowy figure to a struggling American wanna be fascist. Sounds like Trump use have watched it.

Rand Paul, a smary little weasel bastard, said there will be a vote to accept the certification of all the states’ ballots at once and that the challenges are dead. Since he is a smary little weasel bastard, we will have to wait and see if it is true.

I would rush to watch when something was happening, only to find them breathlessly repeating themselves, over, and over, and over, showing the same few clips over, and over.

My wife mentioned she heard that Pence is considering invoking the 25th Amendment declaring Trump unfit to carry out the Office of the Presidency. I've got no confirmation. But I did hear on the news that government leaders; police, military, local, and Federal agencies, are deciding the responses to the violence, and NOBODY is talking to Trump. Very telling, and a big precedent, that the President is not being informed of the situations.

In a way, I think it's fitting that the chickens have all come home to roost. Many people, myself included, have thought all along that Trumpism would lead to destruction. Trump Jr said this morning that "The Republican Party is the Party of Trump."
BAM
They lost the election. They lost the Senate. And they had the Capital Building stormed by rioters. That's got to be a wake up call to the Republican party.

I see pictures like this and think about how smug these people are, walking around like they can get away with anything. These people will be prosecuted, and there are a lot of them. What courts will they be tried in? How will we go about prosecuting all of them? I have no idea. We're talking lots of people here, all eventually going to prison. And I'm assuming all of this will be clogging up a system somewhere.

Fucking insurrection. Shoot the traitors. I think that violence / destruction of property has absolutely no place in protests and political discourse, fucking absolutely never!
Cosmic wonder and epaul both liked your comment. Where the hell was this outrage when this happened:
Don't recognize it? It was the Federal Courthouse in Portland. Insurrection? Shoot the traitors?
Chris Cuomo was fine with it when this shit was going on in June: "Now too many see the protests as the problem. No, the problem is what forced your fellow citizens to take to the streets: persistent, poisonous inequities and injustice," Cuomo told his viewers. "And please, show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful. Because I can show you that outraged citizens are what made the country what she is and led to any major milestone. To be honest, this is not a tranquil time."
When the fucking roosters come home to roost, using exactly what you taught them to do, and NOW you cry insurrection?
I'm am fucking sick in my heart to hear the duplicitous crap all of you spew, right, left and middle.
You can all kiss my fat ass goodbye, I'm sorry I ever heard of this place.
