I use a unit of 7/16" OSB every 4-6 weeks for crating up doors to ship all over. In December 2020 I paid $21.80 a sheet for 2 full units. In Feb 2021 I paid $32.50 a sheet for 2 units. In April 2021 I paid $52.99 a sheet and bought 4 units as my lumber yard contacts were saying they might run out and the price was going to keep going up. I was just quoted $69.15 a sheet from the lumber yard down the street.
This morning a local for sale ad from a private seller popped up for 44 new sheets of virgin 7/16" OSB. After a furious back and forth we settled at $40 a sheet CASH ONLY TODAY. I'm trying to decide whether to bring my .357 to the meet. I also find my self hoping some clever young lad isn't selling me his out of town neighbors stash. If it all goes well and I don't get rolled I'm considering trying to sell it back to the lumber yard down the street for $50 a sheet. Good times.
Psssstt. Wanna buy some OSB?

For some reason, this cartoon just popped into my head, one of my favorite Gahan Wilson creations:

Lumber ain't nothin' right at the moment. Try pricing steel. Assuming you can find any.

Todd, OSB is a very different type of material as compared to particle board.
You probably call your corrugate "cardboard." You probably call concrete "cement."

At least it's not called elmendorf board.
(If armin's first name had been roomin, then it could have been roomin board.)

So it’s not this: Yes that's OSB. Or sometimes called "chip board" as you said. Particle board is has much finer particles(no big chips)and is much looser in particulate density. Not much structural strength at all. Particle board: OSB

OSB is like particle board made of really big particles. And MDF is particle board that's been squished down harder.

So, how do these differ from HPL? (Asking for a friend.)

HPL is a stack of brown paper with a picture on the front, squished down hard with plastic.
