Who is Joe Rogan?
I guess I'm channeling Todd.
But yeah, funny that Young and Mitchell want to silence a voice.

BULLSHIT
No one is being silenced. Spotify is a private business. Joe Rogan is a private business person. Neil Young is a private business person. Joni Mitchell is private business person. Each party can decide who they want to do business with and under what circumstances. Joe Rogan is free to speak on radio, TV, on-line or on a street corner. Spotify and Joe Rogan have made a business decision and Neil Young and Joni Mitchell have made a business decision. It's free enterprise.
(I compare this to "at will" employment. My employer can fire me for any reason or no reason, and I can quit for any reason or no reason. Similarly, I can stop doing business with Spotify for any reason or no reason or for political reasons)

I disagree.
I have no patience with generational warfare. The best and worst of human nature was found within the WWII generation, and is found among Boomers, and among Millennials. Neither Boomers nor Millennials are the self-absorbed entitled brats some describe them as.
Circa 1941 there were those among the WWI generation who said these kids these days are too lazy to fight the Nazis and Japan. Our fathers and mothers proved otherwise. They then went on to raise the Boomers, who have worked hard and raised the Millennials, who are now working hard and raising the next generation. (and yes -- there are some slackers in all generations)

My current iTunes on our Mac won't let me upload music from my own CDs anymore. This is just a corporate monopoly in disguise. Not much of a disguise.

I don't listen to Joe Rogan on Spotify just like I didn't buy lousy records when shopping at the record store.
Well, not on purpose, anyway.

Mitchell and Young, (both polio survivors) have decided that they'd rather not have their music sold by a company that provides such a prominent and sympathetic platform for anti-vaxxers and the like. Seems unsurprising. Spotify is not a monopoly.

"Neil Young is a perfect exemplar of the Baby Boomers: He made some great music, but his politics and self-absorption are a danger to us all."
Ouch !
Here's a joke Sue saw about people's opinions on Spotify and Neil Young:
When asked people say:
Under 30 year old: "Who is Neil Young?"
30 to 60 year old: "Neil Young is some dead guy who made some good music a long time ago."
60 year old and up: "What is Spotify?"

I don't know anything about Joe Rogan and nothing I've read here prompts me to want to know. But I consider it a matter of established fact that vaccine misinformation has killed a very large number of people. It continues to kill people every day. If something I'd created was contributing to the spread of such misinformation, even in a minor way, I'd want that to stop.

A younger Rogan was quite good in NewsRadio--and in light of his current work, his conspiracy-theory schtick in that show is interesting. I wonder whether the writers were playing off the real Joe rather than inventing a quirk for the character Joe. (The whole show was excellent, with a terrific cast. Good times, good times.)
I don't do any streaming services, but I've been know to fall down YouTube rabbit holes while working at the computer. It's amazing how much obscure renaissance and baroque music has been illegally uploaded there--much of it from European labels whose products I've never seen in a store. (Not that I've been to a record store for a couple years.) For example, three hours of baroque violin sonatas that were new to me:

(and yes -- there are some slackers in all generations) The Greatest Generation brought the Vietnam War to a Neighborhood Near You. Many fought tooth and nail against Civil Rights legislation. Black soldiers were not treated very well in the US, or in the UK by white US military during WWII, and denied many G.I. Bill benefits. I never have bought into the Greatest Generation trope. Fooey. On Edit: Every generation has its share of good and bad and middling people.

The Greatest Generation gave way to what may go down as the Worst Generation. God help us all. And this thread has now turned into the perfect example of what the article was talking about. Neil and Joni dropped from Spotify because those nasty anti-vaxxers thought for themselves and they'll show us, dammit. So they're all boycotting Spotify. Just like they all boycotted Chik-Fil-A. How did that one work out? Well, when I went by this morning the drive thru line was still there, only now it goes around the store twice. And us nasty unvaccinated people have been killing people willy nilly and obviously irresponsibly. They know this they say. Not sure how, but cheap shots don't need to be backed by facts. Meanwhile, they're all running around looking for booster shot number 97 of a vaccine that clearly doesn't work as hyped. But that's alright. They know what's right and how you should behave to accommodate them. Dammit. Pretty much the perfect case study.

Are you saying it's wrong to do what you think is the right thing to do, even if others - even if everybody else - don't/doesn't agree? I never thought of you as a go-along-to-get-along type, but whatever.

And Neil and Joni are a hopeless part of that crowd.
