Hello out there... Edit: And, since the cycling season is done: Subtract a grand total of two rides (activities) last jan/feb, and three this month, it's then 154 rides/activities for the nine month riding season. Also lop off 170km for those five rides. So 154 rides over ~275 days, for an average of a little better than every other day. And the adjusted km (5551) over 154 rides comes to 36km average. Not too bad for the old/infirm.

Up with coffee in hand. The dogs have been fed, so they went back to bed. Rain all morning today. My sister and I will visit with Mom this afternoon. Linda will cook up a few filet mignons and some double stuffed potatoes for dinner tonight. Her steaks are to die for.

Good morning. It's raining and it's going to rain. The temperature will hang around the mid-50s. We always need the rain, mired in a drought as we are. It could be a good spring for desert wildflowers.
My plan to smoke a roast may need to be revised. The oven will work.
Enjoy your day.

Fresh skiff of snow overnight. Taking a few days off so officially on hang around the house vacay for the rest of the week. Think I’ll take this cuppa Joe to the hot tub.

9:00 am and we just hit 32 degrees!!
Today is "go get a new battery for your truck" day. So this afternoon that's what I'm going to do, and if the car wash places aren't too busy I'll get some of the salt and grime washed off it.
That's it, have a good day!

I got to sleep in again, until 8 am! Wow, a guy could really, really become accustomed to this.
Planning to do some paperwork this morning, make a quick trip to the supermarket, play some guitar (working on the tune in the video below, to record with my friend Len, who is a great jazz player—I hope I can keep up), and have dinner with a couple of friends from the neighborhood. The husband of this couple is retired but was the third-generation owner/operator of a camera store here in Brooklyn, now shuttered.
Anyway, here is the song I have been learning, to record with Len. It's going fairly well. It is understood that Len will be taking the solos...
I love being off from work during the week. I had a text from a freelance writer this morning about an article and I told him I'd be happy to deal with it when I am back in the office next week. Ha!

Good for you. I can't remember how many times I was on vacation and got calls or emails from colleagues about problems that could wait until I got back.

It should be around 40 degrees today. Changing strings today on the 00-15M to Retros to try them out.
Have good ones.

Morning. Back to typical winter PNW weather, light and intermittent showers temps low 40s.
The latch on my Phillips multi-cooker broke this morning, so I had to make oatmeal the old fashion way, in a pot on the stove. Found a replacement latch from Aliexpress for ten bucks. Yep, coming from China. We will see how that goes.
Off to Kaiser for my INR, and replacement parts for CPAP mask, then Costco for gas and a list of stuff Nita wants for Fridays festivities. I might try to sneak into a car wash also, the truck is filthy after all the snow and ice.

Yesterday was busy for this old retired person. Made apple chutney due to an abundance of apples, some gifted to us. Went to the post office to send in our long term care premiums by certified mail. Then to the bank to cash in some (yes, paper) matured savings bonds. That covered about half of what we laid out to the LTC company. Zoom social call that lasted 2 hours. A very pleasant walk after sitting for the chat. Some preliminary work on our taxes. Very nice turkey sandwiches on whole grain artisan bread for dinner.
So today I'm chilling and playing guitar. Supposed to be hit with heavy rain, but none at all so far. Dinner will be leftover eggplant Parmesan from 2 nights ago, along with some tomatillos that we grilled along with the eggplant.

Slept in again (I also have this week off, except for the times I choose to work). Had some overnight oats to start off today's eatin', followed by some coffee. When I'm working I use a Yeti for my coffee, both to keep it hot for a very long time and also to amaze Rob H, who can't believe how much I'm willing to pay to keep hot stuff hot and cold stuff cold (I can't believe it either, sometimes). But on the weekends and days off I use one of John's mugs. I just have to remember to heat the mug up before using, so the mug doesn't suck all the heat out of the first cup. For the second morning in a row, I have realized I don't need to heat the mug up so much, as I have (slightly) burned my lower lip on the first sip.
So far this morning I have created a new sound on my synthesizer, which sounds a lot like sounds other people have created in the past 60 years. But it's my sound, so I'm pretty happy with it. I might take a chance and buy a 35+ year old Ibanez guitar/synth controller (an Ibanez IMG2010, for those who care about stuff like that). They normally go for $1.5K+, complete with all the boxes to connect to a synth, but this one's under $400 all by itself. Even if none of the synth stuff works, it's a cool "futuristic-looking" guitar (headless, funky-shaped body) that does all the stuff an electric ought to do. If I can get the synth connection to work with a few odds and ends from eBay, that will be cool. For my forays into combining guitars and synths, I'm not trying to get my guitar to sound like an orchestra, just trying to make new sounds. Nothing I will be debuting at IdiotJam, though, until I figure out acoustic synthesis.

Electricity came back on this morning at 5:30. One day without electricity in my home reminds me to appreciate "normal."

I slept late this morning. I hadn’t done that since…, um…, yesterday. And I too have the entire week off. A guy could get accustomed to this.

Lunch time.
26F - 36F cloudy.
Furnace is out but I know the problem and will get the part in a little while. Looking at the firing sequence tells me it is the igniter so I removed it and after putting the ohmmeter to it there is no resistance. Thanks YouTube.
One would think that I'd got enough sleep yesterday, nope, went to bed early and woke up quite late this morning. Simon came in and reminded me because I never sleep that late.
Being only half there yesterday I was thinking that my surgery was on 01/11, no that is my consulting day to see what I want to do and how much benefit it get from this.

Furnace is fixed. Once I had the part it took less than 5 minutes and I assume a HVAC guy would charge $$$. I have a lot of grateful girls here, they are playing Mario Kart wrapped up in blankets while the house warms up.
