If you love February, get all your jollies in today because at midnight it is all over until next year. Prepare for Madness to descend upon the land starting tomorrow. Beware the Ides, too. I hear it’s wise to do so.

High of 65 today. Sun. Nice. Have to go see my primary care doc today to review test results on my annual checkup.
I found out from my blues partner last night that the place we played at last month had a cancellation for this Thursday's wine social. So they wanted to know if we could do the gig. We said yes. So now I need to start practicing again for the next couple days. But $300 is worth the effort.

Sitting down town at a railway station......no, wait, I'm actually at the family restaurant in Vinton.
Big news this morning; the red winged blackbirds have returned!! they're about a week and a half earlier that usual. First true migratory birds to arrive.
Is spring really coming??

Sunny and 5F. I'll stick with the sunny part. And it will get up 24F or so. After Old Farts' Band (I'm in two bands, City Band and Old Farts' Band. Farts in the morning, City in the evening, beer for the rest of the time). I'm up to Warren to work with a couple kids for the musical.
1st tomato starts this weekend.

I've always liked these birds, especially their song, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that they are disliked by many folks for some reason that escapes me. Do they annoy farmers?

Good morning. 18F-36F sunny Little shop time this morning and a trip to Sam's Club tonight, in other words Date Night I'll take some more photos as the shop progresses but right now it's in just enough order to get some minor work done. 20 Days Until Spring.

Not the Red Wings that I know of but the Grackle that look a like them. Grackle travel in big flocks and eat grain off the stock I think. Paul will know.

Good morning. My calendar indicated that I was going to have my photo taken in a nearby stretch of desert this morning. The photographer was going to pick me up at 7:30. I'm usually awake and up by 5:30 or so. I asked my wife to wake me if I was still asleep by 6:30. I was still asleep at 6:30 so she woke me. I rushed around, doing the bare minimum to get ready to be picked up up at 7:30. At 7:45 the photographer hadn't shown up. I'm still screwing up dates and times so I got my wife to double-check my calendar. I had everything right except that the photoshoot is next week, not this week.
All's well here. Enjoy your day.

I love redwing blackbirds. The are territorial so they dive bomb the geese. They also have a beautiful song.

Up and at em. Coffee and some sort of breakfast, suns out, still coolish. Still planning on heading back north, probably on Sunday next, the weather could have been warmer this trip but at least its not snowing on the desert floor, it’s below freezing in Portland. Have not had any more vertigo, hope to stay that way. Spending less time on the iPad seems to have helped.

That reminds me of a parody a friend of mine used to sing long ago in Chicago. I’ve searched for the song but have had no luck. A piece of the lyrics were as follows. Ever hear that anywhere?

Redwing blackbirds also annoy human beings by dive-bombing them. My former office in downtown Grand Rapids was on the Grand River, with parks and walkways along side. I used to escape my desk for short walks along the river. The redwing blackbirds would dive-bomb me, sometimes making contact with a beak on the top of my head. I took to wearing a baseball cap, then gave up on walking in that direction. Somewhat sunny here, some meltage but the ice ridges in the street will remain for quite some time. I finished putting a new top on my workbench and bracing it. The top has a core of 1.75" baltic birch plywood with a medium-density fiberboard top. The top can be peeled off and replaced when it gets beat up. I put a couple of concrete blocks on the platform underneath to help hold the bench down when hand planing. For luthiery purposes, I have a separate work surface that clamps on to the top. Two Marty suggestions here - the vise to hold the neck still whilst changing strings, doing fretwork, etc., and an inexpensive vise from Harbor Freight that makes a decent nut and saddle vise. I routed a recess under the edge of the top to fit the vise. The bench top looks too pristine; I shall commence getting it beat up. (observers can judge for themselves whether my shop is messier than Marty's)

It's a shame that February isn't longer so we could enjoy more of it.
