In honor of those retailers everywhere who bring the products, through storms and strife, to our homes.

Off to Amazon. Yesterday we only had 4 carriers for 22 routes. The head postmaster (called a "POOM" -- though I don't know what the acronym stands for) even came down from South Bend to carry a route. We stopped work at 9:30 PMintheevening and only one route didn't get completely delivered.
On Chickadee there was a HUGE snapping turtle in the middle of the road. I stopped...thinking for a moment that I might try to help her off the road. But when I realized her size, I suddenly became very uncertain that I could safely pick her up from the back. I know I should have been able to do it without her reaching my hands with either her jaws or her claws, but I chickened out and left her. Her shell was badly damaged from some other prior incident I suspect.

If it was a gravel road, she might have been in the process of laying her eggs. Gravel roads, especially the sandier sort, are desired egg laying spots for turtles of many sorts; or the shoulder of a tar road. Amazing they live as long as they do (30-40 years or so for a large snapper).

Beautiful day for Iowa.
A building in Davenport collapsed, which isn’t something you hear everyday, and they are investigating it.
I have to decide whether to get together with some friends to play some music or go to the RC field (or both). Most likely though, I’ll end up doing chores around the house and collapse (much like an old building) later.

Off to a huge cemetery to play (city band) for the town Memorial Day ceremony.
Then back to the salt mine, gardens and fish never rest.

They live a very long time and usually it's cars or boat propellers that do them in.

When I was a kid, I remember fishing once along the river where we lived. I saw a huge snapper on the bank. I walked over and put my cane pole in front of it which it promptly bit in two. It looked at me as if to say your fingers are next, kid. I lost my cane pole but gained a healthy respect for snappers.

Good morning.
62F-85 Mostly cloudy.
DaWife is arranging the living room/office to better suit her view while working and to get the AC unit a little farther away from her while working. Tyler is coming over to help her with the larger pieces of furniture.
I may go buy a large container of cheese puffs and a bottle of Poof de Plonk for Bill to take to IJ.
Other than that not much going on today.

Good morning. It's a day for remembering and honoring those who died in our wars. Some of the posts above nailed it.
The day dawned cool and crisp, in the 60s. We got irrigation water yesterday so we still have quite a few spring flowers holding on. Now that the computer has been repaired I have something to do indoors during the heat of the day.
I'm planning a face time call with my half-brother. I'll also make some neglected phone calls to relatives and friends.
Enjoy your day.

PS: I had two ancestors who died in this country's wars. One was Jacob Mullen who died at Antietam serving in the US Army. The other was Francis Tannehill who died in the the Battle of Mansfield serving in the Confederate army. Tannehill was a young man doing his duty as he saw it. If you don't think he should be counted, fine. It's not a day for controversy.

Morning. My Mom passed on this day in 2017. She was active for years with the Navy League, a fundraising deal for the Navy.
We are having Nita’s folks over for burgers later, and to coach her dad on sing his phone to send pictures. He has been able to do this previously, but now is having issues, so we will see what’s up with that.
Sunny out, looks like a nice day.

Looking like a good day here again. Our little resort town town is hopping with the first wave of summer folk doing the most dangerous thing a human can do - trying to have fun. Luckily they have the freedom to do that.
Have a good Memorial Day everyone.

I don't know of any ancestors lost in war. I built a family tree on Ancestry.com that went back quite a ways but it's just names. I don't know any history about them. A great great great grandfather was named Marmaduke Mendenhall. Sounds like a man who should have accomplished something, but maybe he didn't.
My grandson is winding down his service as a Green Beret safely, for which I am grateful. Should be out by July, finishing up at his home base of Ft. Bragg, and starting an MBA program at Indiana University.
