For those out of the golf loop, the U.S. Open is finishing up this Weekend, and as it is on a California course, you can watch much of it on prime time (7-9 pm, NBC). The course is green and beautiful (unlike our lawns) with treachery lurking on every hole. I'm pulling for my fellow Cobra dude, Ricky Fowler, but I am also pulling for Rory McIlroy, and if some unknown guy, whoever he may be, who is hanging on the tour by the skin of his teeth makes a run, I will be pulling for him as well (even more so).

Apparently one of the most exclusive and secretive clubs around. A rare host for a USGA event.

I’ve been watching the past two days, enjoying the occasional drone shots of Will Rodgers State Beach where I learned to surf a zillion years ago. I know that stretch of coast like the back of my hand. The sixties was a great time to be a kid and grow up in Calif.

“Out of the golf loop” is one of my very favorite places. Other favorite places include: out of the football loop, out of the basketball loop, and out of the racing loop. There are other loops I enjoy being out of but those spring immediately to mind.
On edit: Oh, I forgot to mention out of the TV loop. I really like that place too.

Great course. Bobby Jones shot his famous instruction films here.

This brings to mind the "loops" in the Ransom Riggs series of books, starting with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Written as young adult books, but interesting sci-fi anyone who enjoys sci-fi would like.

Typically, Dad watches all the golf on telly. This US open has been rightly sidelined by the start of 'The Ashes' cricket though. An England v Australia test series is the most essential viewing of English summer sports.
A grand way to pass some time with him too.

Anyone know who the anchor team's female member is? She obviously is/was a pro player herself. I've been enjoying her insights.
She has what sounds like a Minnesota or Wisconsin accent, to me.

Is it Morgan Pressel? That seems likely, and maybe there is no such thing as a Florida accent. On edit, it's her, for sure, thanks, John.

I can honestly say that I've never seen a pro fail to get out of a bunker once, much less two times in a row.

Best way to get out of a really deep bunker is put some sand in one hand, hold your ball in the other, then throw both towards the green at the same time while making a "swoosh" sound.
I do declare, there were times when I was so desperate I threw both ball and sand in air, la-la-la-la-la-la-la

Yesterday was the most golf I have ever watched. I started with Ricky Fowler getting ready to tee off on three and, other than a brief nap at the turn, watched till the last putt. Both Fowler and McIlroy are likeable, easy to root for players (Rory even has a fluffy dog headcover any hometown golf rube would be proud to call his own; no corporate pay me BS there, just a fluffy furball of a dog). Both Fowler and McIlroy are playing great and have been at the top the whole way through, but there is drama as the best player on the tour this year, Scottie Scheffler, has awakened and is coming up at them from below [cue "Jaws" music].
Great stories, great stuff, great golf!
And Wynham Clark would fill the role of the up and coming guy you have never heard of and want to root for perfectly... if he didn't take so damn long to putt. After watching him line up his putt, re-line his putt, up and down, back and forth, over and over and over again, I start talking to the TV, "Miss it! Miss the damn thing. Miss, miss, miss!"

I live on a golf course. Watching those guys puts me to sleep. I can only imagine how boring TV golf would be. Here, at least, their foul language will startle me wake now and then. Do TV golfers cuss up a storm, too?

Been watching at least for a little while every day. Never have I ever considered going to a golf tournament before, but I want to go to this one and shoot down the damn banner tow plane that has been a constant droning of engine noise throughout the match.
