Anyone else following this story?
The more I read about the sub and it’s pilot, the sub’s designer and OceanGate’s CEO, the more amazed I am that anyone would agree to a dive in this thing. It’s a carbon fiber hull certified for 1,300 meters diving to 4,000 meters and controlled using a game controller.
I sincerely hope and pray that these men can be found and rescued.

Sounds like a nutty adventure. I hope they are found in time.

Anoxia is said to be rather pleasant. Being suddenly crushed three miles down is instantaneous. There are worse ways to go.
If they were trapped in a cave instead of beneath the ocean there would already be a makeshift parking lot, souvenir stands, and food trucks.

What an idiotic expedition to go on. But I can't get the image out of my head of this thing being stuck somewhere, knowing that you have only a very finite time left before the oxygen runs out, and being fairly certain that no one is coming. What a wait.

One would think such a sub would have a emergency beacon. I got the feeling they did and it got crushed. Carbon fiber is only as tough as it is flawless and any flaw is a weak spot.
I do hope they are okay and it was something silly that got overlooked.

They are bolted in so even if they are floating, they have no way to get out. Someone has to unbolt the hatch before anyone breathes any fresh air. The filthy rich feel they can buy anything with no risk. This little trip was a huge risk. One of the guys onboard already did the Elon Musk outer space trip. There is really no way to raise the sub if they are found under water. I would like to think they will be rescued but I fear they are all doomed.

Sitting there, in a little tube, waiting for what they know is inevitable. I can't imagine.

The ghosts of the dead were probably grudgingly OK with historical exploration but drew the line at billionaire tourists.

That sounds like some weird Gordon Lightfoot song, Terry. Ghosts of Cape Horn with a really bizarre twist.

When I was a kid my dad took me to "Gray Lady Down" in the theater. Scarring.

I read the lede of an online story today that described a previous Titanic visitor in the same summergible, who said "you drop like a rock for 2 1/2 hours to get there."
I could read no more.
Watch videos of the wreck, for God's sake!

Implosion would take milliseconds. The pressure, on carbon lifeforms, might have created some diamonds?
Also too quick to feel the intense heat (like diesel compression on some kind of hyper steroids).
