Good morning. I'll be taking a short hike in a nearby desert park when it gets light. Maybe some yardwork after that.
Have a good day.

Good morning
26F-47F mostly sunny.
Chef Shawn from next door dropped off some apple upside down cake yesterday made from the Harrelson heirloom apples I gave him. Holy Moly can that guy bake!!!
Shop until noon or so and then maybe we'll get out of the house for a while today. Lunch at a local place, Ob's, I see a Patty Melt or Prime Rib sammie in the near future.

I finally got a good night's sleep, after 3 bad nights. I was pretty tired last night, I worked at the cabin yesterday, then brought the tractor home with me. I blew leaves away from the cabin for about an hour and spent a couple hours carrying, and stacking cement block for a new campfire enclosure. Cement block get heavier every year. The most exciting part of the day was dodging animals on the road going to the cabin. I had a deer run across the road right in front of me and had a close encounter with a raccoon as it wadded down/across the road. The big event was a skunk, in the middle of the right lane, oncoming traffic, so I couldn't change lanes. I thought I could straddle it, but at the last minute the skunk headed for the side of the road. There was a really loud thump/pop as the right front tire of the truck hit it. I now have a very interesting smelling vehicle. With harvest almost over the animals have lost a lot of their summer hiding places.

I thought dead skunks were supposed to be in the middle of the road?
Gonna rain like heck here today. Forcast is about two inches by Monday. Then, more rain. Not too much going on here. Happy to report I seemed to have finally kicked Covid to the curb. Man that sucked. But it’s over, for now. We are trying to plan for family thanksgiving at our house. I’ll cook a turkey, thinking about having it spatchcocked and cooking it on top of the stuffing. Nita’s parents usually do this but they are getting too old so it’s time for us kids to step up. That’s all I got.

I was able to sleep in until 8:00 AM EST! What a luxury. Lots to do today... our Parisian pen pals will be here later this afternoon; it will be our first-ever in-person meeting. Did the bulk of the house cleaning yesterday, just a bit left this morning, and then more food prep. I think we will have a good time, and I am going to be extra vigilant in the kitchen so everything turns out well. Nothing worse than dried-out turkey breast. Well, there are some things in fact, but I won't dwell on such disturbing imagery here.
It will be just like this in the kitchen.

Coffee sipped, skyr yogurt consumed, bills paid, groceries bought, car warshed. Looks to be a lovely and sunny day. I may have to get in the Adventuremobile. There's a newish winery north of here that I've been meaning to check out, Rustic Roots.
I did manage somehow to spill a package of blueberries in the supermart checkout lane, although only about a dozen hit the deck. Just had to assure the cute checkout gal that I'm not a perfect dude.

It can be a struggle, Bill, to remember to demonstrate to others that you're not the perfect guy you appear to be. I'm glad you're not afraid to show that you're human every so often.

My former wife, who I am still friends with, is moving, and downsizing. As such, I have been gifted a framed 1857 Colton map of Kanzas and Nebraska. As I was from Kan(s)as and she was from Nebraska, it was a nice commemoration of our union. I'm still a fan of the map though the union it commemorated dissolved. Of course, I was gifted this map once before, either for a birthday or Christmas, so it's nice to get it back. Aside from the "original" spelling of Kansas, it's also pretty cool to see that the territory included Pike's Peak at one time.

You guys shouldn't feel alone. I struggle with this one every day.

I once saw a comedian who was doing a routine about traveling cross-country after college.
She said, "Have you ever been to Nebraska? Nebraska is proof that Hell is full up and the dead are walking the earth." Seemed kind of mean, and I've only ever met one person from there, namely Fauxmaha, who has always seemed quite full of life and vigor.

Our local classical station, KSJN (go to yourclassicalmpr.org to listen online), has a two-hour show every Saturday morning called "Saturday Cinema." Its host, Lynne Warfel, is super-knowledgeable about movies, and each show has a theme. Today's is Great Directors, Part 2, and I learned quite a bit about Howard Hawks, born in Goshen, Ind.
Anyhoo, a while ago Lynne played "Baby Elephant Walk" from "Hatari!" That Henry Mancini tune became a Top 40 hit, as many of you might recall. Catchy little number.

Garden hose disconnected and put away. One small victory against this early onslaught of winter. Now, what to do about the Christmas lights?

Who is Tom Osborne? Anything to do with th4 Maki Brothers?

Someone I'm guessing only three forum members might have met.

Aside from the "original" spelling of Kansas, it's also pretty cool to see that the territory included Pike's Peak at one time. I have a framed 1863 map of Illinois. I lived in IL at the time I got it. It showed enough Indiana to allow the funky little town where I was born to also be visible. I always thought it was cool because it showed where I came from and where I wound up. Where I live now is also on it so it seems to cover all of my bases. You will notice a bit of Iowa also shows. If you look closely you’ll see it says, “Iowa. Nothing to see here. Move along!” And, I am not friends with my ex-wife.
