I went to the local big box music store yesterday to buy some strings. While there I tried a new Gibson OO, a Martin OM, and a Larrivee OM. All lovely guitars, played and sounded beautiful. Might have had a slight preference for the Gibson.
I didn’t have an urge to buy any of them.
Is this, like, one of those getting old thingees? GAS finally bites the dust? And, there were a dozen other fine guitars in there that went unplayed. I don’t know myself anymore.

This only means that you have become more discerning in your choice of need for guitars that suit your abilities. You won't be satisfied in a regular guitar store, you need a higher-end source.

Rick, there will come a point when you are beyond the acquiring stage. That goes for guitars and anything else. But don't panic, you're not there yet.

Can't say for certain what Rick is experiencing, but I find myself in the strange situation of having the means to buy pretty much any guitar that takes my fancy but restraining myself because I already have more guitars than someone in my situation needs or can play out on.
I had to produce an inventory with replacement values when I got a comprehensive instrument policy earlier this year, and it was unsettling how much theoretical value is tied up in my hoard (though acquistion costs were much lower)--and the relatively small number of instruments I actually play, either in public or at home for my own amusement. So when I feel the familiar itch in the presence of a fine guitar, I remind myself of how many are sitting in cases in the basement and how few years of serious playing I have left.
On the other hand, were I to come across a mid-30s walnut Epiphone Broadway at a reasonable price, I might weaken.

Rick, I know how you feel. My small collection meets every guitar-playing need I have, and there are none of them I would like to sell or trade (now that I've acquired an office guitar that I really like). So, I'm content. It is a weird feeling.

I've been told I really need to look into getting a second guitar. I should.

I just go visit my buddy on Vancouver Island, with the fabulous collection. He’s definitely a higher end source. Come to think of it, that may be my higher end source, and I get my fix a couple of times a year.

I think aging has diminished my interest in stuff of almost any kind.

I think aging has diminished my interest in stuff of almost any kind. Yes, it has. I have lots of stuff. It's interesting how little my daughters are interested in acquiring stuff. The middle one seems a bit more enamored by things, but the eldest and youngest like to live light, and I can't see that changing. But, who knows?

It is a weird feeling. I still wonder about another electric at times, a hollow body, and maybe a resonator, probably a square neck slide. But then...not really.

I've never been real new gear hungry. Now that I've finally got my fourth Gibson, I've got one of everything I need.
Now I've got no more excuses for not learning to play the damn things.

I am a little late to this party, but I feel the same way, Rick. I have a few nice acoustic guitars of various wood combinations, a big formed archtop with a Benedetto pickup at the neck, and three solid-body electrics that satisfy my urge to rock out when it strikes (one is a cheap Fender Strat I had upgraded, with a fabulous neck and fret work).
Window shopping for guitars is still a favorite pastime of mine, but the urge to purchase has been quenched quite some time ago. The combination of being happy with what I have, enjoying the maturing process of the acoustic guitars and hearing them open up over the years, and retirement looming on the horizon, has turned off the GAS. Additionally, I feel as though I have reached an age at which I don't have the time to purchase a new guitar and wait for it to open up. Still buying green bananas, but not green guitars.
This one alone would have been enough. But, you know...

I think aging has diminished my interest in stuff of almost any kind. Same here ... though sitting in my brother-in-laws new Lazy Boy recliner this week has got me thinking a little bit on that front

I'm not GAS'ing for anything new but am still keeping a half eye out for a few things should they come up used and on sale. If they have some visual play wear and a few dings that's a plus. I like not worrying about a new shiny thing.

I like not worrying about a new shiny thing. I found you a deal just across the border in Dickenson. $2,100.99. Take care of all your lawn and garden duties, plus snow removal. It has a few dings and not much shine, but the owner says it used to run real good!

I’d love a nice tele, but have no real use for one. Also a short scale 000 mahogany and Adirondack, with a bit wider nut. But again, I already have one good guitar that’s better than I deserve, and my camping guitar, and a couple of ukes I never play. It’s enough.

Also a short scale 000 mahogany and Adirondack, with a bit wider nut. I've got a Martin adi topped 000-18 shade top custom shop with a 1 13/16" x 2 5/16" set up you'd like. I had planned on selling a few acoustics this summer but Acoustic Music Works revamped their website and weren't taking consignments for awhile, then I got the flu for a month. It's probably going up for sale after winter some time. I don't like shipping acoustics in the winter.
