Good morning.
We are supposed to get about 80 or 85% coverage of the sun from New York. I have read that upstate NY is going to be a traffic mess because there are areas that will see 100% coverage. I'm happy with my 85% here and not being stuck in traffic.
Those who can see it, enjoy. The next one isn't for another 20 years.

"In most types of mythologies and certain religions, eclipses were seen as a sign that the gods were angry and that danger was soon to come, so people often altered their actions in an effort to dissuade the gods from unleashing their wrath." (Wikipedia.) I think I'd have been worried too if I saw the sun go out and didn't know the cause. As it is, I can't get very excited about it.
Peace.

Good morning. I've got some sun safe binoculars and a sun filter for my spotting scope so Claire and I will check out the partial eclipse we're getting here. Outside of that I've got bills to pay and after I post this I'll be heading out to see if the crane's eggs have hatched. Have a great day.

Good morning. 42F-51F cloudy. The leak in the useless sunroof on my truck is back and it's been raining all night. I'll get as much water as I can out of it and take it to the shop today. I have a client to see first.

An astronomy professor of mine in college pioneered an eclipse-studying technique. He would lease a 707, then remove all the seats along one side and sell each window to other astronomers, reporters, photographers, whoever. With that side facing the sun, the plane would fly as fast as it could along the eclipse path, essentially slowing down the eclipse so it could be studied in slow-motion. www.augustana.edu/academics/notable-faculty/nelson-harry

There must be a full eclipse up here right now. Can't see the sun at all, nothing but clouds. Had one yesterday as well.

The Path of Totality. Sounds like a scary Carnie ride. I will have to watch it through the window. It is supposed to hit 75° today. During the eclipse it will drop to -35° and all life forms will grind to a halt. Then, it’ll get warm again. So we hope. So we hope.

Woke up at 4:30 this morning, but I went to bed at 8:00 last night. Exhausted from our late flight the day before. When I woke up this morning it was raining so hard it sounded like a freight train was parked outside the door. Groceries are really spendy here. Yesterday we went to Foodland, a local store and bought one bag of groceries. It was 150 bucks for that bag. 60 bucks was booze, but still. Today we will hit up the farmers market by Costco in Lihue and Costco too, we had sushi for dinner from the Hanalei Dolphin. Sooooo good and fresh. Tonight’s dinner will probably be a rotisserie chicken from Costco. Watching girls pro surfing on the Telly and going for a swim as the rain allows. Off to battle Wordle and connections now. Everyone stay safe.

I am getting ready to take a short nap.
I am going to set an alarm. I don't want to be the guy who went to sleep before the eclipse started and woke up after it ended.

We’re supposed to get 94% eclipse. I don’ t plan on looking at it. Glasses are sold out. But I’m interested to see if stars are visible.

I have extra glasses but, of course, no way to get them to you. The town of Plainfield gave them away. Joke: It is a little suspicious that the glasses giveaway was sponsored by an opthalmologist and the glasses say "Burned your retinas? Call (317) 839..."
