She's been around a while. Never heard of her until today. She's got a show tonight at The House of Blues. And as a protest against exorbitant prices, thickets were only on sale today at the box office @ 10:00 am. There was a line several blocks long and across the river of people waiting to buy tickets @ $25 a piece.
So, I looked her up. She's been around for about 8 years. She's got albums out. Had a Grammy nomination. She's always been self produced. She got her break in 2016 when she was attending an "artist in residence" review with Pharrell Williams. The session was videoed. And it received 2 million views. And she was off to the races.
I watched the video and the look on Pharrell's face is incredible.
I like her songs. I just lover her head bobbing along with the song.

That's a great clip. She's so nervous and then gradually gets into her own song. Very cute.

I don't know anything about Maggie Rogers or Pharrell Williams, but I found that song to be a two-chord monotony, didn't move a molecule in me.
Dominant percussion, repetitive vocal lines w/ descant and nothing more. Not very musically interesting, to my ear.

Don’t be grumpy. Be “Happy” Just my honest reaction, is all. I think that song is totally unremarkable, but she's really cute. What do you like about it?

I guess it's not surprising that Pharell Williams would not find it repetitive.

He's been a judge on The Voice for a few years. Just so you know who he is. (Not that I can stand this song for more than one listen a month).

I guess I'm OK with a "Groove" that a good voice skats over the top of. Subtle changes each time. There's a melodic "A" part, and a surprising higher "B" part that interprets the groove in a different register and syncopation. Plus her head bobbing is quite cute.

Here's the official video she produced
It's engaging in it's simple visual approach.
I love the melodic nature of the A & B parts.

I give it a 9. It's easy to dance to.

I guess I've always loved the Who's groove in Eminence Front
I'm more of a rocker than the most of ya.

I love Pharrell Williams' soundtrack to Hidden Figures. This song in particular, in the context of the movie, is wonderful.

Here's the official video she produced It's engaging in it's simple visual approach. I love the melodic nature of the A & B parts. That video is great - it actually makes the song more enjoyable for me. The... spontaneous? -seeming choreography. I admire a person who can move like that, in what seems to be effortless, big movements. Yeah, almost a random spontaneity. I've got her new album in my YouTube Music queue. I subscribe to YouTube Music because not only do I get streaming, I get ad-free YouTube. That alone is worth it, and it has almost every song or album I've ever searched out (almost every one... I have some weird tastes). I first became aware of Maggie Rogers through this song, which was on SiriusXM's Spectrum channel a lot. During tax seasons I can listen to the radio (when I want a little curation and a DJ) or other streaming for 14-16 hours a day. This song came on often. I like the chorus, repetitive as it is.

Full of the musical (and physical) gestures familiar from the little-girl-singer-songwriter-performance-artist genre. Heavily processed upper-register vocals, trancey-dancey beat, kid-angsty lyric (what I could make out, anyway). Kind of Taylor Swift without the glam. Of course, this is a reaction based on a single sample.
The Pharrel Williams' tune is dancier--maybe because it's more strongly rooted in actual dance music. The lyrics are just another way of nailing down the beat. (I mean, how profound are the words of "What'd I Say"?)
[Short pause to look at review linked by James.]
After a look at the concert photos, I take back the "glam" remark. I suppose the next stage is multiple costume changes.
