I'm a fairly longtime YouTube subscriber of Sönke's. Learnt of him through Will McNicol's recommendation. Looking forward to more tunes on his Fylde. This was a nifty piece.

Thanks all. I am in Porto, Portugal. Just arrived this evening. Had a lively, friendly and musical evening at an Irish pub. Got some tempting sounding suggestions for a jazz bar and some fish restaurants a bit up the coast.
My digs are unfeasibly pleasant for the money and there's an e-bike hire place nearby. Weather is set fair. All is well with the world.
David, nice to see a Kinkade guitar. (Johnny Kinkead is a fine Bristol guitar maker and a splendid chap).

Todd, that must have been horrible for you and your loved ones. Hoping for a steady recovery from now on.

Gender dysphoria is a condition not "sexual dysphoria". The widely recognised and most helpful way of addressing the harm and distress it causes is through gender affirming health care. Health care that is being stripped away, along with other rights, from transgender people by Republican legislatures nationwide. Ignorance about transgender health issues is widespread and deep and its effects dangerous and cruel. Transgender people and their rights are under sustained and increasingly harmful attack. www.smithsonianmag.com/history/new-research-reveals-how-the-nazis-targeted-transgender-people-180982931/

For honing long knives, a long steel is a good choice. Finger guards are obviously sensible . Stainless steel is fine and will last for ages. When I worked part-time in a butcher's shop for about 8-10 years, the inexpensive steels never needed replacing. They still work when they're a bit worn down. You might want to go for something that feels comfy in the hand.
I have been using my 10"-ish, cheapo steel at home for 45 years or so. It still does a good job.

Not to hijack the thread much, but we're hooked on Money Heist on Netflix. Spanish series, dubbed, and a few annoying actors, but a nice complex heist plot that became addicting. We're into the 3rd season. Obviously not high art but I absolutely loved it. Watched the Spanish with subs. I have rarely had such an indulgent Netflix binge. Such sexy criminals! I fuelled my cravings for a little longer with the documentary/making of programmes. Haven't watched the prequel, 'Berlin' yet. I'm scared of being disappointed. If you do, tell me if I should risk it. Edit - Dammit now I've got a Bella Ciao earworm.

My new word of the day, from an article I linked was 'irenic'. "Aiming or aimed at peace".
I have always thought of a 'shufti' as a quick look at something. Picked up I think from my mum. It sounds quite satisfying with a northern English accent. Not so common these days but I like it. Thanks for the etymology

Although it's sometimes interesting to speculate, I mostly don’t understand or know how to put into words why all kinds of vastly different forms of visual artistic expression move or fascinate me. I have been taken by surprise by abstract expressionist stuff a few times. Bewildering but pleasing.
FWIW, I notice I'm not presently feeling especially inclined to chug Red Bull. Perhaps the manipulation of my desire to rot my teeth and accelerate my heart rate is subtle and cunning.

Margot Robbie, who played Barbie has for quite a long time been reported to be involved with plans for a Tank Girl reboot. Maybe that's relevant.
