I wonder how I should categorize myself as a musician. I’ve been playing since I was sixteen, mostly in duos. Made my living at it for 3 years, never paid much but never starved either. Now I play the occasional nursing home gig where I find I am playing to my peer group, but mostly play for tips at various functions and eateries. Do it for fun rather than necessity even though I prefer paying gigs.

Stanley Clark looks like the real thing. I’d check him out. Stanley is one of the few electric bassists that can get away with performing solo.

Greetings, I'm a new member. Not to say that I am new. I'm an old guitar player. Not that I play old guitars. Doc Froon sent me this information. He said other old guitar players might lurk here. Lurking commencing. Welcome from one old picker to another. And I do happily play old guitars. And newer one. Sorta a guitar junky.

Sue and I were dating when I was in Basic Training. I wrote her letters on whatever paper was available. One was on rifle target practice target. I wrote around the bullet holes. After I had seen her in Galveston, I got an Article 15 for being AWOL for 3 days. I wrote her a letter in the margins around the legaleze on the papers that fined me $250. Is that what happened to Bill Murray in Stripes?

I'm sure the DNC has the mail in ballots all printed up and filled out and boxed for shipment. They're efficient that way.
They have also transported tens of thousands of little green men from Mars to really stuff those ballot boxes on Election Day, so watch out.

Rainy and cold again. Waiting for a tow vehicle to deposit our daughter's dead vehicle at our curb. Broke down in our driveway last week. It is unrepairable - timing chain slipped, valves and pistons ruined. A replacement engine would cost far more than the vehicle is worth. For those keeping score, this is the second blown engine we have had in recent years, and the third of our daughter's vehicles to be junked. That’s very bad luck if it isn’t more than coincidence.

The local NPR station has a wonderful folk music show on Sunday evenings, though I listen seldom anymore. I’m becoming less a music fan than even a few years ago. I pick up my guitar perhaps twice most days. My wife plays CDs much more often than I.

That is fantastic, Doc. What a treat. I’m not a big sports fan but Fenway is one of the two major league parks I’ve been to. The other is Wrigley Field. At Fenway I saw the Red Sox play the Yankees. It was a great game and I loved the park. (And Fiddlerina says to tell you “Hi.”) Hey, Dub. Give my love to Joy. (Fiddlerina is just too much to type.)

I just found out my son bought Fenway tix to see the Sox and Angels at Fenway next Sunday. I am ecstatic about this. He’s taking me and his sons. On the face of it this is great, but it also brings back great memories of when I took my father to see the Phillies many years ago. Gotta make sure we enter the ballpark from the first base side so as we enter we are looking right at the Green Monster like in Field of Dreams. I’m psyched.

I love it when I drop my flat pick into the guitar while I’m playing.

The 1.0’s slow for clear bass runs and single notes for bits of the melody and occasional harmony. Breaks up the potential strumming monotony a bit.

I use an electric razor. It does not snag my skin and does a reasonable job.

For yucks I ordered a pack of regualr shaped picks from D'Addario. They came today. I ordered .7mm and .85mm. My goodness, the .7mm feel like I've been playing them all my life. Very lively sound. Not as pointed as the black ice ones. But they feel natural in my hand. This could be a new thing. You know, this is why I have a can of 900,000 picks. Only 900,000? Thought you had a million of ‘em

At our old farts lunch Thursday one of the guys said he had gone to Kohl's and asked a young woman if they had shoe horns. She said "I'm sorry, we don't sell musical instruments." He explained what a shoe horn was, and she had never heard of them. I tried to find a styptic stick at CVS yesterday. Ended up ordering them from Amazon last night. Yet another reason I do not shave. I have shaved twice in 40 plus years both as my wife wouldn’t marry me til she had seen my face. The second day swore I wouldn’t shave again as dragging the blade over a recovering face was quite uncomfortable.

Holy shite!
We just had a mild earthquake in Brooklyn 10 minutes ago! No kidding. It was weird and somewhat disturbing.
The news says it was magnitude 4.7.
Read about it but didn’t feel it up here. Thought I should have.

Used to play a .7 all the time. Now when I strum I use a 1.0. It gets rid of All the little flappy sound of the lighter gauges and I sure don’t miss it.
