Spider John was an interesting cat. I just read an article about his unusual 12 string. R.I.P.

Ha!Sure it’s two chords, but here’s how those two chords are played. Jazz guitarists always make everything more complicated than it needs to be.
It’s boring to play it with just two chords. Why not make it more interesting? Swing guitarist, like everyone else, follow patterns and the same pattern may work in dozens of songs. Most of those chords are pretty easy to play especially using shell chords.

Grass strips can be fun. There were grass strips on a few farms in the area and in some small, unincorporated areas. Pilots are always looking for a place to gather. I preferred blacktop or concrete as a landing base, though.

Grass strips! We landed on a lot of those. No matter how smooth they look, they are bumpy. Shake, rattle, and roll. Many, many years ago!
Have fun and don’t eat too many pancakes.

Finches, orioles, and hummingbirds are all over the place today. The finches and orioles are devouring the orange Barb put out. The hummingbirds are just humming along. Have a good Saturday.

Harmony Looks like the bridge is bolted down too. Whoever did this took “care” to match the new wood to the guitar finish. Nice work. Could you sunburst that thing?

Our gas station has a barista. He is also in charge of the rolling hot dogs. He will write your name on the paper cup and also, using yellow mustard, on the side of your hot dog. I slip him and extra quarter or two now and then. He wears one of those coin dispenser things around his waist like a fanny pack. I asked him to check the oil and he looked at the hot dog closely and said, “Normal amount.” I avoid trendy coffee places with people named Maurice who write El Jay on a cup in green ink with a pretentious flourish. Baristas are the people who came up with silly names for small, medium, and large. I'm not ON your lawn.
If you were, it wouldn’t be for long.

Thereby creating another unemployed barista. I'm just sayin'. Howard, it's a freaking gas station! Baristas are the people who came up with silly names for small, medium, and large. I always say, “Give me whatever you people call a medium.” Gas Station Baristas is a great band name, though.

Good morning, all. A stormy day here. The new CD from Ruth Moody (of the Wailin' Jennys) was released today. I listened to part of it while driving in to work. Very good stuff! A favorite group of mine! I have seen them 4-5 times and they are truly amazing together and solo. They are all very friendly. I was lucky enough to talk to them for a few minutes.

In Oklahoma, and surprised how much cooler the weather is. Headed toward the Woody Guthrie Center in the next few days. I spent a year in OK one week. It was 1988. My marital bus was careening toward the cliff! We stayed at Shangrila Resort in Alton which was out in the middle of absolutely nowhere. In Oklahoma City, I was interviewed on live TV while touring the grand opening of the downtown botanical gardens. It was 102° outside and 568° inside. They wanted the reactions of a typical tourist but I was all they had. It’s the round, glass building downtown. I remember when I could see through the sweat pouring in my eyes that the plants were impressive. At Shangrila I was attacked by a fish while wading. It actually bit me. Nasty bugger. I remember oil rigs and buffalo and flat, brown, open expanse. When riding into Oklahoma City in the taxi from the airport, I asked the driver what there was to do in Oklahoma City. He paused a minute and said, “Well, nothin’ really!” He spoke the truth. I was there for a pilots’ convention. We flew into the Will Rogers Airport. I ate plenty of buffalo. I should have killed and eaten that fish. This picture comes from the internet. The pictures I took stayed with my ex.

I’ve always liked Simon’s music—Graceland, Rhythm of the Saints, Hearts and Bones being favorites. He has always had the reputation of being an egotistical SOB, though. I read an interview with Arlo Guthrie years ago in which Arlo accused Simon of stealing music. El Condor Pasa was mentioned. He didn’t have much good to say about Simon. Members of Los Lobos also accused him of music theft. I don’t recall the details of that one. Others have, too. I guess he who copyrights first has the last laugh. I don’t like his latest recording which comes across to me like an unpleasant old man has finally come to realize he isn’t immortal and he wants to make up for lost spiritual time before the big sleep. Calling him unpleasant might not be fair, of course. I might watch the video, but probably will find other things to do instead. I still like most of his music & enjoy listening to it. I doubt he is concerned about what I think.

Dense fog this morning. I hear the birds. I just can’t see them. Thankfully, I can see the coffee maker and it is ready for me.

Todd gave me a set from his stash - they are the super-duper primo XS strings. They sound great on Todd's mahogany-topped Larrivee. The set Todd gave me will go on my Taylor for its upcoming once-a-year string change. Wow. That’s great. They are wonderful strings. Todd has a treasure chest of strings! 😀

If you complain about Taylor Swift she will write a song about you and your life will be ruined.

I won a years worth of those in a Father's Day drawing last year. I do really like them. I think you won the standard non-coated strings. EJ-16s or EJ-12s. The XS string are their super-duper primo coated strings that go for $20 per set and last for months and months and months. A year’s supply would be 2-3 sets.

It’s common for us older folks. We get the AM & PM mixed up in our body clocks. 4 AM comes along and we think it’s 4 PM and time for dinner. Best thing to do is get up, check the rain gauge, have a Pop Tart, and then go back to bed. Soon your brain will realize it’s AM. You still won’t sleep, but your body clock will know it’s morning. Another suggestion is stay up way past 9 at night. Maybe 9:15 or 9:30. You will start to sleep in to 5-5:15 or so. We older folks sleep so much in the daytime that it all works out.
