Holy Moly! UConn's offense is a machine. A flowing kaleidoscope of body and ball until an open shot is found. So refreshing in an era of one on one hero ball. Alabama did too much standing around and watching while Sears dribbled, dribbled, dribbled, traveled, and then forced a shot. Actually I think UConn's defense is the machine. They decimated the offense of every team they met in the tournament. Near the end of last night's game, Edie had 29 points and the rest of Purdue had 20 points. This from a team that averages many 3s per game. They just disappeared under crushing defensive pressure. The Yukon breeds some tough players. Must be the cold. They have to run fast to keep warm.

Even though the survivalists from the Yukon beat Purdue, probably unfairly, the morning has dawned bright and cheerfully over the 9th tee. Things look spring-like and hopeful. Probably a ruse, but so far so good. 13 more days in this cast. I don’t know whether to be giddy or depressed. Anyway, 13 more days. Yay!

The Path of Totality. Sounds like a scary Carnie ride. I will have to watch it through the window. It is supposed to hit 75° today. During the eclipse it will drop to -35° and all life forms will grind to a halt. Then, it’ll get warm again. So we hope. So we hope.

Sitting around playing with Charlie Christian’s A Smooth One. Relatively easy & lots of improv room. Nice chord walk down in part A : Bdim7-Bb6-F6/A-F6. Anyway, it’s not easy holding a guitar with elevated leg in a wheelchair, but I can strap on an electric and manage it fairly well. Where there is a will, there is a way.
I don’t like much of Pearson’s improv but, still, there is a lot a person can do with it. Not crazy about some of Emmanuel’s improv, either, but the song has a nice structure.

You know, this is why I have a can of 900,000 picks. Only 900,000? Thought you had a million of ‘em I gave some to Marshall.

I thought UConn was Yukon-a bunch of crazy, Alaskan basketball hermit survivalists. Turns out they are from Connecticut. Learn something every day, eh?

For yucks I ordered a pack of regualr shaped picks from D'Addario. They came today. I ordered .7mm and .85mm. My goodness, the .7mm feel like I've been playing them all my life. Very lively sound. Not as pointed as the black ice ones. But they feel natural in my hand. This could be a new thing. You know, this is why I have a can of 900,000 picks.

Swedish meatballs, Marty. In the protein aisle.
My 86 yr old and 90 year old sisters, retired nurses, made a surprise stop last night. Think Spanish Inquisition minus the pleasantries. The 86 year old especially drove me nuts. It’s like they think we are either hiding something or too damned stupid to know what we are talking about. I was ready to chase them out with a chainsaw before they left. Barb would not get it for me. They mean well, I supposed, but they can irritate the last nerve in my body very quickly. And they either don’t hear or don’t listen to anything said. Ugh!🤕🤕🤕 I must be getting better or I would not have let them irritate the holy crap out of me so much. Ok. I’m done. Nice day. Enjoy it.

I'm bringing [to gathering at seester's tomorrow] a box of wine and about $100 worth of Old Southern BBQ ribs and cornbread muffin tops. Everyone will be especially nice to me. Just back from Old Southern, where I encountered a New Frontier in Cluelessness. The 20-something gent waiting on me rang up the ribs, and then I ordered a dozen muffin tops, to which he replied, "How many is a dozen?" I wish I were making this up, but nope. You should have said 24.

It was centered in Lebanon, NJ and the ground shook all along the coast from NY to Boston. We have had them here and it is a weird experience.

Just noticed that John Pizzarelli is coming to Valparaiso next week. He will be at Valparaiso University. I would love to go but I am not yet physically able. Crap!

I'ts a sunny say. It looks great, but it's a cool one. More rain this afternoon. Like LJ, it's time to be healed. But I know patience is key. Patience sucks, too. Oh well, not much choice at this point.

Dreary day. I am counting the days until this cast is gone. It’s still too many for my liking but getting better. Who said time flies? Enjoy whatever day this is.

I saw that group with her, I saw the group in which Frank Reckard played lead, and I saw another grouping where the backup band was basically New Grass Revival, who opened the show, and a final show with the Nash Ramblers. Sam Bush, Roy Huskey jr., and others I forget were the Ramblers. I saw an interview with Albert Lee who said the lead part ending the song on the studio version of Luxury Liner was bits and pieces from several takes that the engineer put together. He said nobody, including him, could play it like the studio version because it had so many pieced together parts.

I think I gave you a couple when you were here for the guitar. I have quite a few of them in various sizes. Once I am mobile, I will check to see what I have. Picks with that shape & point are often called jazz picks.

Rainy day. Having trouble with the knee scooter. The cast comes up too high, so I am walker- hopping & wheelchairing around the place. The wheelchair goes down the stairs really fast but it’s a bitch getting back up😳. Three more weeks of cast. drlj, back in fine form. 😀
The couch at the bottom of the stairs stops my descent quickly.
