Closer to Schoenbergs - must be careful.
We moved here two weeks ago - this is the view to the west northwest from our living room, a giant 30 x 16 with a 10 x 10 alcove that will become a study/music room soon. Still quite a few boxes to unpack, and haven't started to put Graham's room together yet. He returns from college for the summer in a month - plenty of time. After all, his needs are simple, bed, computer, TV with hookups for his PS3 and other game consoles.
Quite a transition from 4 BR, two living rooms, a storage room, garage, and a huge back yard to 2 BR, and a 2' x 6' storage area in the carport. We've sold a ton of stuff that we really don't miss at all. We inheirited from 5 or 6 relatives and kept it all - go figure.
The place is right on the water, with lots of level space for walking instead of the severe hillside locations we've had for the last 19 years. And I already appreciate the apartment complex's guys who have fixed a leak, a slow drain, and a few other little things. Nothing major, but I didn't have to do it. Instead, I've been able to build a rack for all our copper pots, and a pet door that only Dante can open, not the cats, and customize three of our closets. My next project is a 10' bookcase wall with one of the four sections doubling as a door that will make that alcove into a room.
We'll be getting bikes soon, and possibly a small boat - 16' or so with a canopy- when and if more money starts to roll in. Might try to trade my Saab for one. It's really a buyers market for boats.
So we now have two houses in Mill Valley that are rented and cache fleaux. And our rent here is less than our mortgage at the old place. This is a good thing. Hopefully we can wait out the real estate depression and sell one or both in 3-5 years - both of our tenants want to stay for a long time - young kids!
Last Sunday, partly to make room in the small freezer, but mostly cuz I wanted to, I cooked a turkey. The process started off strangely. It took two days to thaw at room temperature - I had it in one of the sinks. Midday Sunday, I went to the store to get all the other ingredients, and had transferred the bird to its baking pan, at rest on the back of the stove. When I returned, the turkey was on the floor with a wing missing, and there was a dog who wouldn't look me in the eye. But what the hell - far as I was concerned, it fell under the 10 second rule, so into the oven it went after getting stuffed and all. And Todd, there was (and still is) lots of gravy and skin. I remembered bits of all the wonderful SIL Thanksgiving stories during meal prep and every time we ate some of it - the traditional meal, sandwiches, a potpie, and Patricia's outstanding turkey soup.
I think this may be the longest post I've ever written here, so I'm wrapping it up for now. It's getting light now, and Dante is ready for a walk.
Good morning.
