I don't get this flag worship. And how does this affect policyholders' premiums?

I've never been one for much symbolism. But I do understand that symbols hold great meaning for others.
If this is just a cynical act, then the thinking is that it helps the policy holders by strengthening their numbers, thereby decreasing their share of the premium pool. Essentially, it's the same logic behind the ACA -- that if more people (everyone) would pay in, each would pay less.
The private sector -- up until the ACA -- didn't have the luxury of forcing customers to buy their goods. That being the case, the private sector has tried, successfully and un, any number of advertising campaigns from straight media advertising, to attention-grabbing acts, monuments, and other.
But the non-cynical view is that there are a number of people who really are patriotic and almost can't believe their good fortune at being born American. They actually weep at the raising of the flag. They don't question every military action and see our fault, instead, they focus on what they see as the honorable intention of the soldiers who are killed and maimed in action. They don't filter every patriotic impulse through a cynical political sieve.

Lots of peeps don't seem to grok that our foreign policies at times generate hatred. Mike

I'm one who can't believe his good fortune at being born in this country. I never forget that.
The flag is another matter. It was evidently one of the flags used by the first great multinational corporation, The East India Company, long before the American Revolution. I also wonder if the insurance company will be sued by Perkins Restaurants for appropriating their corporate symbol.

I don't get this flag worship. And how does this affect policyholders' premiums? You're just pissed because they won't let you climb the ladder on the inside and parachute off the top.

Meanwhile, just down the road, Johnsonville Sausage has plans to build a 500-foot-tall bratwurst on a stick. Salut!

I find this gouache: I don't get the flag worship either. I find I have much more of an attachment to the Constitution than the flag.

Patrick - I get that, but the flag repreents the Constitution. You can't carry a 200-year-old document into battle, or salute it at ball games. Symbols are powerful. Using the flag for commercial purposes is questionable, but if these guys are willing to spend all the money I'm sure it took to give Sheboygan something it could crow about, I'll give them a pass.

What I really find offensive is dating sites that say they can find "God's match for you," or words to that effect. I figured lightning would wipe out those cheeky entrepreneurs right away, but it seems they're still there because I keep seeing their ads on TV.

Isn't it a law that you take the flag down every night? How they gonna do that? They'll probably hire a team of illegal immigrants to carry it off to storage at sunset, haul it back at dawn.
I think the sentiment is well-meant, I think spending whatever insane amount that thing cost, when insurance rates are so absurdly high already, is nothing short of criminal.

Advertising, appealing to a market demographic plain and simple.
